Division C
Captainwaltersavage - German Imperial 1200-1319 AD (1600) defeats joggy- Aragonese 1200-1274 AD (1600) 63:28
The Aragonese brought a lot of knights and I did not have much terrain to hide in. My pbi lined up to do their best and the knights blasted through much of my infantry but luckily just kept on chasing the poor souls trying to get away. Other enemy knights were bogged down against my luckier spears. Meanwhile my remaining infantry managed to chew up the Spanish infantry and my superior numbers managed to get some flanks in. A chain rout at the end saw three Aragonese crossbow units all throw in the towel after some were still reeling from initial shock of contact. Top tip - do not try to melee knights without disrupting them first.

Wasn't a lot left on either side and lots of insanely good morale rolls for both.

Division B
Karvon - Arab (Conquest) 638-684 AD defeated joggy - Byzantine 988-1041 AD 53-26 for a 4-0 win.
Battle was joined in a mountain pass with hills on each shoulder a few scattered rough patches. Another narrow pass lay on the far Arab left.
We deployed our infantry in three ranks: skirmishers in front, a mixed spear and bow rank and a rank of spear and supporting medium foot. Behind that we placed our lancers in reserve. We hid two light horse in the far pass as a screen and possible flanking forces.
The Byzantines deployed with their lancers and some horse archers on their right. A mix of Varangian Guards and footbow were on their left supported by a couple of lancers. Some skirmishers screened the front and a few were screening the far pass.
We both advanced our skirmishers for some initial shooting, but these lines fell back, or got slaughtered, as the following lines closed in the confines of the pass.
I fearlessly charged my Arab spears into his cavalry, relying on their elan to survive any bad initial results. We mostly survived that, one unit getting disrupted but subsequently rallying. We got stuck in with the Varangians and footbow as well. His lancers caught one of my massed bow and a Dailami foot in the open and those began to look grim rather quickly.
Our spears forced back or routed a few units creating some gaps for us. Our lancers moved up and flanked a couple of his engaged units, creating larger gaps for our reserves to further exploit. His lancers routed the bow and Dailami, one pursued out of the engagement, the other got flanked and destroyed. He shifted his skirmishers from the far pass to help counter my breaching his line. After a slight delay, I sent my light lancers through the pass and turned his right flank further and these caught and routed off several of his lights. Though his Varangians fought on, even when flanked, enough of his army had fled to give us the victory.

kraff (Bulgar (Danube) 852-1018 AD with Pecheneg 850-1122 AD allies) defeated joggy (Byzantine 988-1041 AD): 59-31.
Great game. A difficult battle for the Byzantines who couldn't fully utilize their cavalry due to a deep stream cutting the battlefield along army fronts.
