Switching off PC question

Post by PoorOldSpike »

Hi, PC dummy here again, can anybody clear up something i've wondered about for a long time, namely when we switch off our computers after a session of playing any game or surfing, should we also switch off at the wall socket?
Reason I ask is because when I switch the PC off, a few lights inside it stay on because its still connected to the mains, is that okay?

PS- And what about our router? A BT engineer once told me that we should never ever switch it off, is that correct?

I suggest you switch off a desktop computer at the mains when you've finished a session.

I'm also with BT - not employed by them I should add - but it doesn't matter if you turn your router off. If you have a power cut it goes off, then comes back on when power's restored. If you want to move the router to a different power socket it comes back on when plugged back in. You can turn it off before you go to bed at night if you like. Either way it just takes a few minutes ,to come back on.

I hope this helps.

I am with BT. There was an issue with connection, and during a phone call I told the advisor I switch off the router each night to reduce EMF radiation. At this she said this would cause connectivity problems and it should be left on all the time. This is complete nonsense and therefore was evident she hadn't a clue what she was rambling on about.

"Is this explanation... now!... as Clear-As-Mud?":

***I know that you believe that you think you understand what you heard I said!... But!... I'm not sure you realize that what you heard... is not what I meant!.***

??? Does it make sense???.
