Gates of Berlin 1 Reload

Reload on turn 7 after falsely assuming the enemy bridge engineers' inclinations towards attacks of opportunity.

This seems much harder than the GC East version of this map, especially on Ultimate where your aux units have half exp while going up against +5 str. Fortunately I was able to evac about eight or so plus all the rockets except one. Most of whom I plan to utilize nicely in Sealion 45. I also deployed a bunch of the aux Italian units from earlier campaigns, given there are exit hexes for them.

Oh Buddy...I am just realizing that you are taking the victory path...man I am slow on the uptake

The next one is a fun one and one that has a fun playthrough on my channel. I was playing blind on Guderian so only 5 less turns...so you are facing it all

Ah yes! I was worried about Dunkirk 45 but it was a bit easier than I expected, except for the air waves which are just devastating. If I had to do it all over again I'd make sure to over-strengthen my fighters just enough so they're not targeted by all the Meteors, P-47Ns, and P-51Hs. Stinks to be half way through a scenario and realize your fighters are too weak!

I'd say the hardest "must win" '45 scenarios are Bastogne Siege, Liege, and Brussels. Haven't played Sealion yet however, but it was very challenging on Manstein.

I found Sealion 45 surprisingly easy on Guderian blind....but yeah Ultimate could be devastating...how are you doing with prestige?

Dunkirk 45

Very good, can just about max over-strength everyone along with some aux units going into Sealion 45. Got eight strat bombers to at least 2-stars too fully loaded, ready to sink lots of ships!

Dunkirk45 1 Reload

Reload on turn 8 after getting blown away by the first air wave. My heroed, 3-star Me-262s are targets of opportunity by most of the enemy fighters that spawn in. Also their tac bombers one-shot many of my ground units.

Dep. Might have been better to concentrate everything along the northern route, but this plan certainly got the job done without needing to use any of my aux rockets in the stable.

Half way point. Outlook uncertain.

Quite the puzzle here, getting the aux units out is especially important on Ultimate due to the 100% disband income. Got 22 out which is more than I got on Manstein surprisingly. The three artillery pieces and two AA will also be of great help in the next battle.

Two SE tanks to Panthers, the extra movement was vital for getting down to the aux units in time and screening their retreat.

Thanks buddy for sending me the replays. When/if I get there in my playthrough they will be must watch research.

I have not had time to type up at home. (So much going on with family.)
I am finally here in my playthrough of Ultimate. I have started watching your playthrough and quick question. Do you have to exit out your core units to win, or do you just need to exit out the right number of Italian units? I do not want to end early but want to maximize the amount of prestige I can earn and kills I can garner.

It's pretty lax I believe, the scenario will abruptly end with a DV when enough aux units are exited but not if there any remaining on the map which is nice. Nothing to do with core units, but exiting them will keep them safe and lower soft cap.

I am curious why did you want to exit early? Since you are playing on Ultimate your units have limited attack times where I would think getting more kills would be a greater priority then getting out of the kill zone. Richard Martin exited early because he is so averse to taking damage. Damage for me is part of the pain of playing on this difficulty.

Wasn't worth the risk of a unit getting caught out and destroyed by the attackers, a single bad roll or enemy bomber hit can open the floodgates on a unit. Risk management is a big part of my decision-making due to my reload policy, makes the game more interesting I feel.

Not reloading at all no matter what makes it a completely different game...

While taking damage builds character ;)

In thinking about this, I am pretty sure I will have to start the playthrough completely over and shift the way and what I am bringing. I really thought that my Panzer 4H's would be strong enough, but they need back up. Lots of back up.

What do you mean with "shift the way and what I am bringing"?

well I do not want to upgrade my se Pz's 4's to anything different until after they lose their overstrength....so I need to back them up with artillery, so more artillery, more AA or air defense...less strat bombers...I want to bring them and get kills, but just need different unit composition...

I am also trying to use my greener units. It can be so difficult building up the units in the west campaign. Very difficult

IIRC there wasn't much luck or craziness involved, so should be repeatable and probably beatable. Probably a fair amount of restarts though on the opening AI turn roulette wheel though to get a workable setup.

Later on I managed to squander one of the towed aux artillery by accidentally deploying it in the middle of Beaches of Normandy
