commanders with BG's that leave the table

Are commanders with BG's that evade or rout off the table lost, or do they remain in the game.

Lost, however, remember that they do not have to rout off table even if with a routing BG.

Courtesy Mr Ruddock wrote:"A commander who is with a battle group at the moment it breaks must rout with it once. Until the joint action phase he cannot leave the battle group and cannot influence any complex move tests or cohesion tests"
Therefore he must leave the table and is lost if the initial rout move. If trying to bolster he does not have to move with the routers.
