Overrum Hero
I attached an Overrun Hero and looked at Awards.
The unit already had 4 overruns.
Apparently the game keeps track of overruns even if the unit can't overrun.

There comes a time on every project when it is time to shoot the engineer and ship the damn thing.

That's huge! Thanks for sharing, dalfrede. It means you don't need to wait for the hero before you start working toward Steamroller. I wasted so much time!!
Also, I'm totally into the idea of an overrum hero

Re: Overrum Hero
No, I think you misunderstood. It does keep track of how many overrun kills you have even after you remove the Overrun hero. However, you will NOT be able to collect/do overrun kills without that hero (except for tanks of course) UNTIL you achieve the 25 kills to earn Steamroller. If you later return the Overrun hero, you don't start at zero again, but continue from however many you did earlier. In fact, if you remove the hero before you achieve Steamroller, look at the Awards and Steamroller doesn't even show! Return the Overrun hero and you'll see it again WITH however many overrun kills you had achieved previously. Hope that clarifies things.Scrapulous wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 4:21 am That's huge! In my recent playthroughs I am working on trying to get Steamroller all all of my frontline infantry units. I used to look down about that hero think it has very limited benefit outside of tanks. Boy was I wrong! It is very powerful to have on infantry and I even got steamroller on one of my recon units in Spain.
Re: Overrum Hero
I'm a huge fan of Overrun on recons - it saves tons of time dealing with those pesky 1-2-3 power stacks that remain on the battlefield and tend to replace losses next turn. It really saves time and allows to focus tank usage elsewhere - sure, tanks could do the overrun as well, but especially in 1941 this means they might get into trouble and too close to powerful enemy units.adiekmann wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 5:32 am In my recent playthroughs I am working on trying to get Steamroller all all of my frontline infantry units. I'm a huge fan of the Overscotch hero myself. Usually with a couple of ice cubes.
Re: Overrum Hero
I actually know some very cool tricks with overrun.
I think this will be my next guide video...

There's a first time for everything!
I see what you're saying. I interpreted dalfrede as saying that the game tracks combat outcomes that would have resulted in an overrun, regardless of whether the unit is capable of delivering one, and stores them in the Steamroller qualification counter. It sounds like you're saying that the counter only increments if the unit has the Overrun trait natively or a hero that grants it, and that dalfrede's news is just that the counter isn't reset if you reassign the hero before winning the award. If I have some time later today I might do some testing to find out for sure.

A trick for getting a fast Steamroller on Infantry: place the Overrun hero on an overstrengthen Engineer in the maps with plenty of minefields. At Thermopylae alone I 'harvested' 8 or 9 various kills, mostly mines.
P.S. As much as I like it, I think Steamroller should only be applicable to the Tanks.

Re: Overrum Hero
I have to admit, I totally agree with you here. On my last complete playthrough I had 3 Overrun heroes and in addition to tanks had earned Steamroller on five different infantry unit in addition to 2 Recon units. Moscow wasn't that much of a challenge any longer...Vorskl wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 1:28 am A trick for getting a fast Steamroller on Infantry: place the Overrun hero on an overstrengthen Engineer in the maps with plenty of minefields.
