TIPS FOR DEFENCE ON RANDOM SCENARIO

Hello Guys,
I have just installed PC2 and after the tutorial I wanted to give a try to the random scenario.
Well, let's say that is a difficult game (for me).
I have choosen to play german against britain (AI), medium map, target: defence (german), year 1939.
I have left all my german unit that the game has choosen for me.
The fact is that while I can deploy my units only in a scattered way all over the map and I can not group more than 3 units in a place, britan attacks with group of 8 - 10 units and it is difficult for me to reject or defeat them. It seems also that their units are stronger than mine.
Any help or tips ?.
