Its a defensive mission you just have to hold what you have if I remember it correctly. You can clear the map but you have to set up defensively

You defend with interior lines. Once you defeat the attack, counter attack and take the VHs.

If you start by attacking some of your units may get isolated and killed.
The highly aggressive AI units will swarm you.
Back up your front line with Art and AT to blunt the attack.
There comes a time on every project when it is time to shoot the engineer and ship the damn thing.

comparred to other games where this battle allso are in, its not very well done. The are supposed to be minefields all along the front. same with the Gazala scenarie, no minefields, and they where a very importent part of the war in North Africa

Yeah, I noticed that immediately too when I first played it. Perhaps when there's eventually a North Africa/DAK DLC or campaign, they will reimagine that scenario. I thought both Gazala and 2nd Battle of El Alamein were very well done in PC1's African campaign.

i tried everything under the sun but there is no way i am going to defend and let alone liberate the hexes in 12 moves . The allies as was the case are superior in numbers by almost 6-7 to one . They just keep coming . I watched a youtube but the video ends before the mission ends .

You need to figure out a way to form a good defensive position. It's been along time since I've played it, but use/secure those hills near the top and other positions supported by art, AT, and AA. You let the AI smash themselves against your defenses and then know/learn when it is appropriate to conduct limited counterattacks. You have to be careful not to overextend yourselves too early or before you've dealt with the bulk of the initial Allied attack. Then, once they're significantly weakened, you go on the attack and overwhelm the rest and take the map.

Well, how strong is your core and heroes? If you have suffered a lot of loses and/or been given crap heroes that might make a difference.
