Activated FOGII in steam now can't log in for Multi player when accessing via steam

I purchased FOG II and the DOC direct from Slitherine last year. I have just uploaded the activation codes to steam so I can play it via steam. The only problem when logging in via steam is when selecting "multiplayer", a message comes up saying
"The server has been unable to validate your details. Please contact the support forum etc." And that's as far as I can get. I can still play multiplayer when not using steam to log in. Any ideas please.

Were you ever in a beta test for the game in the past?

Check for a file called FieldOfGlory2.txt in Documents/My Games/FieldOfGlory2. If it is there rename it and then try running the game again.

We are investigating on the server side. Apologies for the hassles. To confirm, you are still able to play via the Slitherine version?

Yes, no problem with the Slitherine version, and I can play the steam version, with the exception of the multiplayer, when it comes up with message originally posted by me. I think you can see the login screen for multiplayer, but it is under the

Pending a definitive fix, the PBEM code has now been tweaked so you should be able to log into MP from STEAM without any FieldOfGlory2.txt file in /Documents/My Games/FieldOfGlory2. (If you previously attempted to concoct one without a valid serial, please delete it).

The first time you log into MP with STEAM, the game won't know you, so it won't show a serial and you will need to enter your username and password. It will then write a FieldOfGlory2.txt file containing your STEAM serial.

On subsequent MP logins the dialogue will display your STEAM serial and will remember the username and password you last typed in.
