Deeter (Macedonians) defeats TomoeGozen (Persians) 58-32. Hoplites stand little chance against pikes. Fun battle.

snooky51 defeats sawyerk -- 41-9

Open plain with some hills at the bottom. Persians tried their best to prevent the macedonian phalanx from rolling the lighter persians but to no avail.

Well done snooky!
I'm afraid I let the side down a bit :( maybe 32 points will be enough?

tyronec (Macedonian 355) vs. Karvon (Persian 419)
We have agreed a draw, Karvon leading 6-3.
I think this probably means that teams 7 & 8 will go through to the next round, so if that is the case then congratulations to you all.

I think rs2excelsior is missing in action given his lack of participation in his DL games where Pete is about to adjudicate all his outstanding matches.

You're right, and I'm just waiting for that before I cancel our game, and let team 7 and 8 continue to round 4.^^

Heard nothing from rs2excelsior (apparently no one has) and think best thing to do is continue with the tourney and have team 7 and 8 journey to India! Congrats!

Round 4 - Invasion of India

One would think the conquest of Persia and control of most of the known world would satisfy anyone, but not Alexander. Drunk on victory, he pushes his army farther east, until it reaches an exotic land: India. Even here he demands submission, but the Indians refuse. There will be war, again.

Armies: Macedonia 355 BC vs. Indian 500 BC

Team 7 vs Team 8

SawyerK (Macedonians) vs. snooky51 (Indians)
TomoeGozen (Macedonians) vs. deeter (Indians)

The player who is India sets up the map, which is:

Large/Wide (1600)
Tropical
Open battle
No allies
There is no re-rolling of the map.

Winning player gets 60 points for routing the enemy, plus % that you won by. Losing side gets points on what % of casualties they inflicted. Winning player PLEASE count up and post the points each person won when posting victory. Thanks.^^

I really like the story telling that you attach to this tournament, with the stages and the background texts! Even though my corpse got left behind in Greece, I still follow the development and stages with great interest.

You've set up this very well, following Alexander and his player generals as companions in their footsteps, as part of a tale which we all know beforehand has a doomed ending attached to it: there can be only one!

Thanks a lot buddy! After the tourney I will be asking people's opinions and what could be improved; be sure to let me know! I already have some things in mind for the next one after this.

I'd love the First Triumvirate! Would be a good setting for There Can Be Only One, wouldn't you say? Pompeius' Third Mithridatic War. Pompeius' and Crassus' War of Spartacus. Caesar's Conquest of Gaul. (Caesar's Landing in Britain.) Crassus' Invasion of Parthia. Pompeius' and Caesar's Battle at Pharsalus.
