How do walls work?
Chinese wall.
I'm trying to move onto one but cannot. I can't find anything in the manual about them, it's info panel doesn't say anything, basically stuck. I'm assuming you cannot. If this is the case how do you deal with them in the game.

It's a wall. They work what walls do: they block your path. If you want to deal with them, you can go around, for example. Or look at them...

OK so you can't enter it. That raises two question, where in the game/manual does it say you cannot enter it and two, why does it have modifiers as other terrain does if they will never apply. I may have missed something.GabeKnight wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 2:30 am It's a wall. They work what walls do: they block your path. If you want to deal with them, you can go around, for example. As too 'what walls do'. You can knock the thing down. Heard of explosives?

Okay, fair point. Personally I think the 40% cover are just a copy/paste error. On the other hand, a scen designer CAN put units onto those walls and they may offer cover then.Chris21wen wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 6:56 am [...] why does it have modifiers as other terrain does if they will never apply. You just don't blow up the Chinese Wall. Even though I think the UNESCO didn't exist back then, there are rules in war...Chris21wen wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 6:56 am As too 'what walls do'. You can knock the thing down. Heard of explosives?
Come on, you really would blow the pyramids just because they're "in the way"?

If I remember correctly, it was possible to blow up these walls at Omaha Beach in this game:

Ahh, that looks like the oldie but goodie JTCS.terminator wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 10:55 am If I remember correctly, it was possible to blow up these walls at Omaha Beach in this game:
But don't think of the wall in this game as as stone fence. Think of it as the wall of a major fortification. Sure, it could be demolished IRL with a bunker-busting bomb, but normally it is a given obstacle that the attackers work with or around.
I have used walls a number of times to portray castles and forts without the intention of the player being able to run a tank through them. Rather, the tank had to destroy a gatehouse (concrete bunker) or two in order to get inside.

Thanks guys but none of this answer my fundamental question, where in the game/manual does it tell you this?

Oh, sorry. Well, here is the stark news that all newcomers must hear eventually: The manual has never been revised in all the years since this game was introduced. It is still titled "OOB Pacific" referring to the days when it was just the two original DLC: U.S. Pacific and Rising Sun. The Chinese wall, if I am not mistaken, was introduced with the next DLC to be released, Morning Sun.

It's quite unfortunate that a lot of the mechanics in the game aren't explained anywhere, and if they are, it's usually very obscure. I would suggest a menu somewhere in-game that just has every feature listed out. I'm sure there would even be people who'd be glad to volunteer time to do the typing work.

Everything is not written, there are things that can be learned on the battlefield by playing and by reading this forum...

This is true you can learn many thing by doing but it sure a hell helps if basic instructions are available. Yes manythings are hidden in games and should not/need not be published for the game to work. I understand this and it is not a problem. No matter how good a game is it's only part of the package and not updating the manual, to include basic stuff like you cannot move onto a wall, is a grievous mistake and makes companies look ameteurish. There's not even an entry in the changes/whatsnew pdf.terminator wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 4:52 pm Everything is not written, there are things that can be learned on the battlefield by playing and by reading this forum...
This rant is not aimed at this game or this company but at gaming in general as the problem is extensive.
I should also add that had there been something written there would be no post for this subject and therefore you would not have had to suffer from one of my pet hates
