Still no win after having 3 times 2nd place's legacy

How do I actually win at this game? The manual told me that after turn 50 I can win if I triple my "rival's" legacy score, whatever rival means. I tripled 2nd place's legacy score in many instances, yet somehow I still couldn't win. How? Now everyone catches up and I have to fight many enemies at once and I'm being overwhelmed.

IIRC, after turn 100, you win if your faction is at the top in Legacy and you have three times as much Legacy as the second place faction. I'm certain this works, because I've done it twice.

This is quite rare though, but you can't win before turn 100.

Otherwise, you have to go to turn 500 and you win by having the highest Legacy score.

Oh, so it's actually turn 100, not 50? Yea, I think I reached triple legacy at least three times after turn 50, but there's still no win, so I guess you're right... I can't reach triple legacy anymore, at least not until I fix the mess I have made when I thought the game was broken and attacked 8+ nations at once. Even Dacia and their client-state Dalmacia beat my Marian Legions to shame at the start of turn 100ish... I guess this is how the emperor in ancient times felt like when they conquered many lands, but still haven't "won" the game (world). They got bored and plunged themselves into their own demise.

Well, time to turn off my build automation and start being serious again.

Thank you for your good wish and for taking your time answering my stupid question

I'm trying Skythia now (horse tribe) and they are a lot harder to play. Their lands are separated and most of them have only 2 pops. Growing an army is also really hard because of low income... Guaranteed decay to decadent as well. *shivers*
