confused by Shot

Post by OldenTired »

so.... javelins get a +1POA vs unprotected foot, but muskets get no POA?

are we relying on the Shot having more dice? because otherwise that aztec army is just going to sit there hurling javelins.

I don't have the rules yet... however wild uninformed speculation is one of my specialisations.

From my understanding, the point of firearms was to provide the ability to punch through armour, especially handguns (as opposed to pistols). This is why armour eventually dies out along with the bow, I suspect that most if not all of the Spanish who fight the Aztecs will be armoured so that +1 POA for Jav will be irrelevant.

However, without the rules all the above is wild and uninformed speculation.

good point on the spanish, but here in new zealand we tend to play open comps.

there's every chance those aztecs could end up fighting the parliamentarians -> lots of unprotected muskets.

Be just like DBR then, where the killer army is New Model Army in the West Indies. I can see it now 'Dave Clarke beats Pete Dalby to win 2010 IWF using Aztec swarm'.

Don't just look at the POAs.

Troops shot at by javelins get +2 on their death roll as in FoG:AM.

Troops shot at by arquebuses or muskets don't.

Troops with javelins get 1 dice per 2 bases. Shot get 1 dice per base.

So if the Aztecs stand there shooting they can expect to suffer heavy casualties and are unlikely to win the exchange.

You should perhaps e-mail slitherine regarding this. I am not directly involved in sending stuff to beta-testers.
