Another Question From Newbie

Post by canuckgamer »

Three of us are starting our first game PBEM. I am Macedonia and the other two are Rome and Ptolemaios. I noticed that Thracia is a client state of Lysimakos. What happens if I invade Thracia, does Lysimakos declare war on Macedonia? Also a general question about where to invade. How can you view the benefits of conquering a minor faction such as the resources it has? Thanks.

To 1: yes i think you will be at war with macedonia.
To 2: Use trade map overlay, button at the right side near to minimap, 2nd row i think. And you can click on the regions you want, so you can see all buildings in that region, which might be also important.

As pointed out, you would not only need to use the trade overlay to see the province's own inherent resources, but to click on the province as well, to see what resources it produces through buildings.

I'm not absolutely positive whether relations between client-state and protector have an effect on them coming to their aid or not, but I assume that they'd automatically join in against you.

When I hover the cursor over Illyria there is what looks like a settlement with the numbers 2-1-1 in red. There is also some information about the garrison such as POW 2 or POW 21. What does that mean? I have tried to find what these mean but when you have over a hundred pages in the manual it is difficult to find answers.

The number is the abstract Power rating of the garrison. I don't know what the 2-1-1 might be. This is the menu I get from a settlement. You could take a screen shot.

Thanks, I just tried to attach a screenshot but it says the file at 5.80 MB is too large. What is the maximum size file that can be attached? I would have to reduce it somehow. If you hover your cursor over the circular settlement you will see in red numbers 2-1-1.

Open it with another program, like MS Paint, that comes with Windows software. Then you can copy out the part you're talking about and paste it to a screen by itself like I did above or save the whole screen shot as a .jpg which is smaller. The only menu i got with a text in red was of a settlement under siege. If I cursor over an army with a leader I get a 1-1.

I circled the settlement and saved it as a gif. Screenshot is attached.

I just did my first PBEM turn as Macedonia and that 2-1-1 was not there. I am following your grand strategy tips as none of us (three) have never played the game, even solo. I saw the 2-1-1 when I looked at Macedonia solo play just to look around. I clicked on Add files went to the screenshot and double clicked, also tried open. In both cases the file appears in the blue bar where file comment is. The file 1.6 MB. I also tried to drag and drop in the message box but didn't work either so the file must still be too large.

After you Click "Add File", there's a pause as your file is loaded. You may be posting before the file is on board. If you save it as a .jpg it will generally be much smaller.

Here's my Macedonia AAR:

This is the screen you should get. Good luck with your game!
