encircled units questions

Post by Herr_Armin »

hello
When a unit in this case a Matilda tank is trapped in the African desert by SDK recon units when i shoot i get a zero damage , same message for the 5 units around the target ,why ? this seems to happen more often when the green outline is displayed confirming a unit is trapped .

Encirclements do not reduce the defense value of encircled enemies. They prevent resupply and stack suppression.

But you still need a unit that can pierce a tank's defense rating to damage it enough to surrender.

The Matilda is an incredibly well armoured tank. It has nothing to do with encirclement, you are likely unable to damage it because your units can't penetrate it. Use a tank, anti-tank or AA gun in Anti-Tank mode to damage it.

Africa campaign
I finally mastered the Matildas by deploying 3 Panzer 3's G , V and H and enhancing them to 15 together with 4 Stukas to soften them up and attacking them individually .

In real life, in real history, the Italians had literally nothing that could penetrate the Matilda. The british used them to great effect because short of mobbing them with men and firebombing them they couldn't damage them at all.

They eventually appealed to Germany for more 8,8 flak guns to use in the direct fire role because they had a roughly 50/50 chance of getting a good pen and nothing else worked.

The main weakness of the tank was that it was ridiculously slow, so very easy to hit and it didn't have a HE round. So it sucked against dug in infantry (good against emplacements though!).
