Division A
Geffalrus (Byzantines) defeats hidde (Dailami) 46-3
The Byzantine combo of lancers and skutatoi were able to keep the fearsome Dailami at a distance while peppering them with arrows and disrupting their elephant. A well timed charge and some unlucky cohesion checks on the units neighboring the elephant sealed their fate. Good game to my opponent.

Group 2 qualifier - deeter, tmac11 or iandavidsmith

Division E
SawyerK - Lydians (687-571 BC and Greek ally) and Geoffrey.P.Smith - Egyptians (570-525 BC and Kyrenean Greek ally) 46-40 tie
The battle map had two narrow mountain passes and the Lydian hoplites fought their way past three heavy chariots on the western pass while the Egyptians bulled their way through the central valley with Kyrenean hoplites and additional heavy chariots. Both major attacks were successful but the two main army branches remaining were so distant from each other in their respective passes that they were just able to achieve contact for the final battle before time ran out. My compliments to Geoff for an exciting, hard fought match.

Division D
Captainwaltersavage - Palmyran 258-273 AD with Arab 312 BC-299 AD allies defeats ggarynorman - Jewish Revolt 66-135 AD (1600) 42:7
The Jewish forces had a very nice starting position except that I had a very large number of archers and to stay in place was certain death. They chose to chance it and charged at me whilst I attacked on my right with my lighter cavalry. The Jewish charge was broken up with archery and then the legions and the cataphracts advanced to contact. It was pretty one sided and even the archers put up a good fight against the zealots - at least long enough for the battle to be decided. When they went they collapsed en masse. It was quite scary until units started to be disrupted then I knew I would have the advantage.

Captainwaltersavage - Palmyran 258-273 AD with Arab 312 BC-299 AD allies defeats Barrold713 - Bosporan 11 BC-375 AD with Sarmatian 25-375 AD allies 63: 57
Very well matched armies and complicated terrain made for a very interesting match up. We both defended with lighter troops on our left flanks. Heavy infantry in our centres and lots of heavy lancers on our right flanks. That makes it seem much tidier than it was as I had lots of intermingled troops. I think what won it in the end was the timely arrival of the cataphracts at the same time as the legions in the centre were engaged. We both had useful rallies and I was able to chase down some lancers before they rallied all the way back. Medal of honour goes to the legion hiding in a forest who stepped forward to ZOC a lancer unit just before it could flank charge my legion. One more turn and the result would have been reversed or at least a draw. Barrold713 worked hard to gain the deadly warrior consolation point. Great game.
