A closer game than it seemed, I learnt how tough dismounted knights are against spears and the terrain was a real struggle for both of us.

Both armies were maneuvering a lot to get to a more favorable position. Having superiority in skirmishers I managed to get a lead of 18 points to 0 before first melee. I got overconfident, of course. Especially that a few turns later it was 35:13. That's when Nyczar's skill started to make a difference: in next two turns I was winning only 44 to 40, but also having my flanks exposed and troops wavering. Then things stayed uncertain for a few turns and ultimately I won because I got lucky, at the last possible moment. I have to compliment Nyczar for his ability to be a step or two ahead of me in spite of his losses. I learned a very valuable lesson. Thanks.

Pretty much a very even match up in force composition lots of heavy infantry for this one to cope with the Huscarls- but I had all the luck with my dismounted knights in the centre holding off waves of attacks (with a great deal of luck). All the others held the line and Knights as ever doing the business and rallying when they took a shock. Badge of honour goes to the crossbows who bounced some disordered knights. Then shot them to fragments and secured my left flank. I had all the luck!

Ostrogoth cavalry managed to disperse the Palmyran heavy horse, with a bit of good fortune at key points, and just get back to save the warbands from destruction. A hard fought battle throughout.

Thanks to Doyley50 for a good battle, played in a great spirit.

Captainwaltersavage - Palmyran 258-273 AD with Arab 312 BC-299 AD allies (1600) defeats Bluefin - Indian 546-599 AD (1600) 40:9

The battlefield was dominated by a large flat hill on my left, covered in rough ground, and an area of jungle on the right but closer to the Indian start line. It was really a battle of the hill. We both launched assaults to take it as an archery base as we both brought 4 or 5 archer units to the fray. I also brought some light archers and a host of irregular foot. The gamble payed off and the indian attack was broken and the archery base established helped to break up the advancing indians. The legions and archers below on the plain managed to break enough units before the elephants arrived. My own cataphracts and light norese on the right managed to add to the tally of broken units but then the battle ended as the elephants arrived and started smashing everything to pieces. Automatic victory saved my skin. Very exciting game.
