Greek (Western) before 280 BC

Post by kronenblatt »

Greek (Western) starts at 280 BC. Which would then be the "proper" army to cover the Greek colonies in the west (Massilia, Syracuse, etc.) before that time period: Greek 460-281 BC?

Doesn't Syracuse have it's own list?

True: good point. Syracusan 412-281 BC. So Syracuse itself is covered. Should that army then be used for other Western Greeks maybe?

TT mod for Immortal fire provides Greek (Western) 550 BC - 281 BC.

I guess it should be plain GreeK (680-281) in the Vanilla game as it seems that Western Greek such as Massalia were resistant to change, once far away from their native shores.

True, Greek 460-281 BC makes sense. Also to get some additional variety. For the Magna Graecia city states too (Metapontion, Neapolis, et al)?

I'll let someone else who's more knowledgeable than I answer, especially about their relations with local populations (did they use mercenaries, etc. ?). However, I guess that, as long as you have lots of Hoplites and light foot, very few cavalry units/LH and some Peltasts, you can't be wrong.
