This is serious, a beer is riding on the result of the Shaw vs Handley match.

And we need the next round so we can find a suitable bet for then too!! And I've already drunk the beer so may be 2 out of pocket!

Just wanted to record my thanks to Dan Hazelwood for organising a great tournament and to everyone else who helped make the weekend such a success.

I had 6 great games against people I’d never played before, all played in a very positive spirit – so big thanks also to Steve, Mike, Mark, Silvio, Dave & Terry.

Terrific hospitality from our American cousins – especially Scott & Mike.

And well done to Ricky Jones for a well deserved 3rd place.

Commiserations to Dave Ruddock who led the competition from start to finish but who had a really tough draw and fell at the final hurdle.

Huge thanks to Paul Woolerton – aka Scrumpy – for the ride to and from the airport – we just made it back in time!

And thanks to all the Brits - especially Nik for bringing the trophy back for me - hope there was no excess baggage charge!

Hopefully see you guys for the next one?

Cheers

Pete

All the runners & riders were listed on the IWF 2009 site.

Pete used Ottomans, Dave had his Skythians & Ricky used Anglo-Irish.

I, too, wish to thank Dan for organizing such a fun event. In the six games I only played one person that I had ever played against before, and that was many years ago under DBM, not FoG. So six fresh opponents, which is always a lovely thing. One of them was Terry Shaw who was kind enough to give me a very convincing demonstration of why an all cavalry army has no chance against longbows. I built the army expecting to see a lot of shooty cav and light horse, but in the end only played against one. <sigh>

After three rounds I was within striking distance of the top, but then it all slipped away over the next three. I assign blame to lack of sleep, too much beer, poor alignment of the stars, and so on. Oh, and a large portion of operator error. :x

All in all, great fun.

I too must add my thanks to Dan for running such an excellent tournament, and to his assistants, especially the lady who helped him on Friday & Saturday. ( who is sat next to me as I type :) )

I had 5 great games against people I had never played before, and enjoyed each and every game thoroughly. Learned some stuff, and each opponent was a gentleman.

It should be in Europe, probably either Spain or the UK.

At present I am not aware of a definite location.

Unless i win the lottery or some US sports group pays for the airfare.. I dont see that happening for me.. Though i was starting to plan on saving for a trip to Scotland with some friends in about 2-3 years... But we would be staying with his sister.
