Mancount question

Post by Mord »

I am putting together a small list for Steam about actual men/equipment counts in the non-infantry units. I remember there were some old threads that had some of that info but I can't find them.

Is this correct?

Cavalry: 240 Count. 120 Men + 120 Horses = 240. Or are the horses not counted? Which would make it:

Cavalry: 240 Count. 240 Men riding 240 horses = 240

And what about Carts?

Carts: 120 Count. 30 Carts + 30 men + 60 horses = 120?

It never counts horses separately from men. For most units it counts men. For elephants it counts elephants.

Baggage:

120 men

Standard Wagon:

600 men.

LOL. That completely screws up my thinking at least with carts. I was good as far as elephants though.

This is how I pictured everything, is any of it correct?

Heavy Chariots: 200 Count. 50 Chariots x 4 Crewmen per Chariot = 200

Light Chariots: 100 Count. 50 Chariots x 2 Crewmen per Chariot = 100.

Scythed Chariots: 50 Count. 25 Chariots + 1 Crewman per Chariot (25) = 50.

Elephants: 20 Elephants (men not included in count). In reality there would be 3 Crewmen per Elephant. 20 Elephants x 3 Crewmen = 20 Elephants and 60 Men per unit.

Light Artillery: 100 Count. 25 Artillery + 3 crewmen per mechanism (75) = 100.

Heavy Artillery: 100 Count. 25 Artillery + 3 crewmen per mechanism (75) = 100.

So 120 men for carts. How many carts am I imagining?

Pretty much. In our view the elephant is the weapon, not the men.
Light Artillery: 100 Count. 25 Artillery + 3 crewmen per mechanism (75) = 100.

Heavy Artillery: 100 Count. 25 Artillery + 3 crewmen per mechanism (75) = 100.
Maybe, although the light artillery only have 2 crew, and some heavy artillery might have 4. I would say 50 and 25 engines, respectively.

So 120 men for carts. How many carts am I imagining?
As many as you like. The unit is called Baggage, not carts. It is merely representative of the army's impedimenta. It probably isn't all in the form of carts. Some might be pack mules, or even porters. Does it matter, it implodes on contact anyway?

Oh, yeah. DUH! That was a copy and paste from the Heavy Artillery. 50 makes sense.

For my suspension of disbelief, yes. I play these games a lot differently than a lot of people (you'd probably laugh at me if you seen how I zoom in and take it all in). Immersion is very important to me. So, technically I could just go with my original thought, if they aren't gonna make it through even one round of combat anyway. Or 30 carts with 4 men each.

Alright, cool. I was pretty much on point. I probably learned about the Cav when I originally first made this list and forgot, hence me not recording it.

Thanks, Richard!

Or 20 carts, 30 pack mules, 20 slaves carrying stuff on their back, 10 camp followers, 8 cows, 10 sheep, 20 chickens and 2 dogs. ;)

i.e. Not all baggage is carts.

Well, now you better get Patrick modeling! I am not gonna be happy until I got me some chickens to stomp.

P.S.
Pack mule models would actually be really cool.

Negative, Ghostrider :D

Priority for new models must go to the camp followers.

You just freaked me out. I was getting ready to go to sleep and I was just thinking about the women and children "camp followers" that were in FoG I. I Saw there was a post here and bam, you spoke my thought!
