Bombed or Destroyed City hexes?

Post by Ezequiel1996 »

It's there a possibility to add a Destroyed city or bombed city hex to the game? it could be useful for the battles in greater cities, i mean fighting in the "ruins of stalingrad" and then see no damaged builidings isn't very cool actually xd haha

Yes I agree, it will be very usefull. I’d like specifical city hexes that make recognizable big city ad Tour Eiffel, London Bridge, Reichstag, Red Plaza, Colosseum etc

Both have been part of the plan since the start of development and a lot of art is already in place. But design and development realities pushed them way down the priority list and that list is still overflowing so don't expect anything soon. Of course more voices added to the request always helps refocus priorities.

you could use Desert village or desert rough hexes instead, take a look at the "Defender of the Reich" scenario, Berlin has a few desert villages/rough hexes scattered over the city

I like unit destruction models that remain on the board after a unit dies.
I like the idea of terrain deformation and destruction.

But outside of looking cool, which I definitely appreciate, it's lacking in meaningful gameplay elements.

Unit wrecks don't impair movement, they are purely visual.

And how would terrain affect gameplay.

Do hexes start in a normal state and become ruined by gameplay, such as units dying on hexes or repeated artillery and aircraft attacks on a hex?
What effect does a ruin hex have over a normal one? I think the most obvious is it should severely slow down non-infantry movement especially Wheel but also Tracked movement types.

I'll add my voice to the request. I imagine they'd slowing tracked/wheeled movement and have a high base entrenchment number.
Some terrain types have a "damage" variable, so I think they're set up to include bombed/destroyed hexes in a future update.

P.S. For the sake of aesthetics, I'd also love to have the "industrial" hex option.

I'd wager that ruined hexes could also increase the defence of an infantry unit too, throughout WW2 many cities took days, even weeks to capture due to the tenacity of the defenders waiting amongst the ruins, take Monte Cassino or Aachen for example.

for how it could be implemented, you could have it toggleable in the editor for a specific hex to be ruined or not, in hexes such as village hexes would provide more defence for a unit, whereas ruined ground hexes like Forest or Bocage would decrease the defence of a unit (because ruined forests or bocage just means the cover has been destroyed), even clear hexes could potentially increase the defence with shellholes adding more cover for a unit.

But for gameplay sakes i think it should be Artillery or Tactical/Strategic Bombers that could shift a hex to a ruined state

I hope that the hex of a city where street battle is possible.. There are various facilities such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, a library, etc. It would be nice if the hex could be destroyed. Please refer to the photo in the link below. This is a sample of the standard grand strategy game. http://ftp.gameshot.net/gameshot/Screen ... O/dai4.jpg
