This was a problem with FOG 2, and I raised the issue back then, as did others. But this time, it is even worse. The opening scree has a tiny square in the middle
which consists of even smaller rectangles in the center, which are very difficult to read for those of us with poor eyesight. The top left corner has a few even tinier squares that can be clicked on, but are even harder to read. There is a huge amount of empty space on the opening screen, and it would have been easy to make these items much bigger and easier to read.
When, with the aide of a magnifying glass, and much frustration, i was finally able to find the tiny square that brings you to the options screen, I was faced once again with a huge amount of empty space, and a small group of rectangles in the center, which contained the options. This was also very hard to read. I had thought I could choose windows mode which would enable windows magnifier to work, which would resolve the problem, but I could not figure out which rectangle to use.
This was not a problem in Fog2, where the option selection was much larger in size, and I was able to select the options I wanted. I checked FOG 2 again, and could select the options I wanted, because the text and display were much bigger. This could have easily been done in Medieval, and I do not understand why Slitherine made it so much smaller and harder to read.
Why do this? why not make it easier to read, at least to the extent it was done in FOG2?

Re: Fonts and displays are too small
That is very strange, because on my screen the buttons are actually larger than in FOG2.
But the main menu font, though probably the same size, certainly has less weight.
Note that the following screenshots are saved at only 60% fidelity to make the filesize smaller, so do look a bit blurred.

Re: Fonts and displays are too small
Contrary to what you might think from looking at the screens, there isn't a lot of available spare space on the Settings screen. The extra space at the sides disappears on narrower aspect ratio screens.
The UI elements are at least the same size as in FOG2, but the font is less legible.
No doubt something can be done about that in an update - I will draw it to the attention of the UI designers.

Thank you for responding so quickly, Richard.
The screenshots you have shown on Medieval show the buttons as being much larger than they show on my screen. When I have some help, I will see what settings are in terms of resolution and other things that could explain why they are so small. Getting help on the fonts would be wonderful.
I will post again as soon as I know more.

Hi Pip. Nice to hear from you. My screen is 24 inches. The resolution I am now running the game on is 1920 x 1080.pipfromslitherine wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 9:27 pm What screen size and resolution are you running the game at?

Re: Fonts and displays are too small
That's a pretty common use case, the text should be pretty readable. It could be contrast or (as Richard says) the font style.
If it is causing issues, you can tweak the font sizes in the SYSTEM/FONT.TXT file in the install folder. Make the height values larger and you will get larger fonts. Note this may cause some layouts to become uglier, but it might help with your issues.

Re: Fonts and displays are too small
I have poor eyesight, which complicates the issue. Nevertheless, I have been able to play and enjoy FOG2 literally hundreds of times. The font style used is definitely much harder for me to read, and I hope it will be changed in a future patch, as Richard said could be done. I appreciate your suggestion about increasing the font size. I remember that we had a similar discussion years ago about font size in FOG2, and increasing the font size helped. Thank you for reminding me of it, and for your help in this matter.pipfromslitherine wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 10:58 pm That's a pretty common use case, the text should be pretty readable. I remember that a number of other people had problems with the font size in FOG2.
