I was stuck on tyranids for the longest time, as my old laptop didn't have vulkan capabilities.
The AI was dumb, but aggressive and tricky to beat on harder settings.
Now i'm playing with all the DLC to Alderi, and the AI is as dumb as a bag of rocks as utterly useless.
For example: the AI no longer scouts and captures resource hexes. It may stand a unit next to a vital resource ... AND DO NOTHING ... THe meta game of contesting those all important hexes is gone compeltely.
To win, all I have to do is survive the initial meeting (which is easy, as they run away far too early, failing to take any risks in taking down my units) and I can beat them by simple out resourcing. They don't even attempt to contest artefacts.
Is there anyway I can use previous versions of the AI?
Also, I miss my running tally of dead 'nids. An option to display various kill totals on the main screen would be nice.
All in all, the move from tryanids to Alderi seems to be a massive backwards step. If i'd started out with gameplay like Alderi, then I would not have bought any more DLC as the game is boring. that's a sin. The boards now have a grindingly regular resource hex deployment, I can mostly grab 3 with a single city. I get that these were design, fairness and balance choices, but they are detrimental to the game, which used to be about making the best of a shitty world and tenacious AI.
All you guys need to do is expand the 'options'. I'd like tyranid version resource hex, and AI, and the units and races from later DLC, please. OR if chaos or tau offered better AI, the option to play against that.
pretty please. Its not like its a huge change to the game
Reverting AI to previous versions
Re: Reverting AI to previous versions
hmmm , what difficulty your playing with, did you consider higher levels?
if your play with less then invincible difficulty i cant tell how the AI plays there as i always play on the highest (invincible difficulty) and they AI is much aggressive and very fast in researching and will capture every special resource tile in his vicinity even in deserted areas were no ally or enemy in sight they will send a unit to capture a resource tile if its in their line of sight, and if there is two enemies closer to you then an ally you will be overrun in no time even defeated in less then 30 turns if they saw your city.

Changing difficulty doesn't mean the AI changes its style, just its advantages. Dumb as rocks, but with flag bonuses.
I want the old behaviours back

Re: Reverting AI to previous versions
What's your version of the game ? As in my case the AI is not acting the way you described.

Re: Reverting AI to previous versions
I am playing version 1.2.6 as I cannot play with Vulkan since the specs changed after that version number. I have all DLC up to that point and after what is described maybe I'm not missing anything.
I just completed a game against Necrons, orks and tyranids and was soundly defeated by the Necrons. I found them to be a rather canny enemy as far as AI goes. Generally, if I heavily damaged a unit it would withdraw. If I broke the backbone of an offensive they did not seem to relentlessly suicide themselves and would withdraw . However on the other hand if if the number of enemies killed were not significant compared to the numbers involved in the offensive, they would attack relentlessly.
Around turn 200 they went on to conquest my city and after some turns of mass attacking with all kinds of geometric units finally leveled it. I hung around to see what would happen and then they went down and rolled over the orks and the tyranids. Those two were apparently were caught in some type of stalemate with many units on each side locked in eternal combat until the Necrons came. Anyway, the AI in my view seems surprisingly good, again this is version 1.2.6 legacy which is still available in both Steam and Matrix . DLC up to Tyranids includes Skullking and reinforcements.

my experiences with the highest non-vulkan AI was very positive, far more enjoyable than the crappy AI at 1.7.3SteamSlither wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 4:23 pm I am playing version 1.2.6 as I cannot play with Vulkan since the specs changed after that version number.
