I do not wonder - everybody experiences this at the first few tries. :) Later, with much learned, it is also possible to win the war with half prestige (Rommel difficulty).
Maybe with the Leningrad captured you got some extras to make some more upgrades...but than it will be the prority to upgrade the PzIII's to Panther A's... :)

Pete is right about the xp loose system oof the airforce.
In previous screenshots I sill saw un-upgraded panzers like Pz35, Pz38. Why no upgrade? They would be much more potent even as PzIII (...and soon as Panther A). It is because not enough prestige?
I always rename my hero units already at the start, like 34. GebJäger +2A, and also the arty like 4. Arty (horse+), or 7. PzGren (Mot-7)
Not enough prestige, I dont think I will be able to upgrade shortly..
Situation is tough we are hanging between loss, draw or a difficult marginal.
Prestige lost in 1941 ! to much spending to strengthen naval units

If you strat bomb the forts and/or tanks out of ammo, you can also use an 8.8 to break through... the trick is to be able to move the 8.8 into firing range, i.e. close enough without getting it heavily damaged by SU artillery fire though...

I still wonder if moving the Flammpanzer to Finland early on works better, i.e. to capture Leningrad from the north
Thanks for commenting, I agree with your idea about 88, Goose also used it.
I took the StuG since is more capable of dealing with artillery shots
The Flamm is here on purpose to attack the infantry defenses, but from the south

As I see there is a possibility to somehow counter the Allies in the west, destroy Stalin and make a minor victory at the end.
I would build my defense at the Lubljana - Fiume line. Allies can then come one unit at once and also Allied naval units cannot really much interfere. (Although a few inf unit can slip through tha Alps, but they can be contained.) On the south French site I would build it at Montpellier/Rhone river, because this region will be anyway lost to Op. Cobra. Dijon and east of Vichy could be the nothern defense point.
And try to hold the defense after d-day at least at Paris. In that way, you still have the chance to launch the V-missiles, which could bring a lot of prestige!

ps 15 turns later still not be able to upgrade it... I miss something
Are you saying it is not working? What exactly did you do (and how)?

Maybe best to ask McGuba
Trying to upgrade to a city but not in Berlin.
Right know I am thinking not to upgrade at all, Elephant is a costly slow unit and since we do not have the prestige I prefer not to use it at all.
It is parked somewhere in Germany

Well great suggestions, I have not thought any especially for south France it seems a logical plan.

Right now Iam on turn 68 and although I thought to make some defense west of Paris, it seemed to me impossible to withstand such a HUGE air force allied dominance.
How this can be possible?

I am thinking (not really decide yet) to fall back to Rhine river to attempt a defense line.
There create a protection from two Flak Fortresses with 88 guns.
Each fortress combines three or four 88s stuck together so few units can be protected... Although I doubt this will be enough.
Right now I think that the only protection is the winter to come and then if possible make an attack to regain lost ground.

Luftwaffe is evaporating...

Any more help with the situation mostly welcomed.

Yes, StuGs are better in later years. The 8.8 is the only proper gun in early years though...

Some people even argue that the Tiger tank was nothing else than an 8.8 with armor by the way... or the 8.8 was a Tiger without its hull...

I agree with Uhu's suggestions... on the defensive operations in the west post D-Day, i.e. turn 72... maybe best to think about it in terms of delaying the advance... i.e. how do you reach turn 99...

Quite right: after some time, you will get more prestige from the oil wells and it will help to stabilise the situation. Also after defeating the CCP, many units will freed up. But it is time, until you transport them to west. But if you loose just one of your core cities, you will loose a lot of Speer's prestige in every turn. Also do not forget about Market-Garden...
At this stage, do not bother much of your airforce: if there is a possibility to hit-and-run attacks against bombers than it is good. But Use as many AA's to protect you troops as possible.

Really exciting AAR! :)

I hope you will manage to reach a minor victory or a draw at least. If you think that you are unable to defeat the Soviets by turn 99 maybe it is better to change your plans and try to live with a draw. That's why it is good to sometimes take a deep breath and analyse the overall situation and not just go forward turn after turn.

In case you decide for a less ambitious draw, it may be a good idea to try to hold the major objectives like the oilfields or Leningrad as long as possible because while these are in Axis hands they still reduce the number of new Soviet units appearing in the Ural.

faos333 wrote: Fri Jan 22, 2021 10:22 am Prestige lost in 1941 ! to much spending to strengthen naval units
Partly because of that, in the next version there will be less prestige in the beginning, but some more units. I noted that a lot of new players go a bit too crazy with the prestige spending in the beginning only to regret it in the later stages. So I think it would be better to have less prestige in the beginning and potentially more towards the end.

Thank you, I am pausing now on turn 68 to think and open discuss alternatives.
In the east Stalingrad is expected to fall in few turns, Baku and Caucasus objs have fallen to axis also.
Finns slowly advance to hit from rear Arkhangelsk.

But I need to think again what will be aiming at
