Romans

Post by DaiSho »

Hey all,

Well, I've had these Magister Militum figures for quite some time, so I decided to put some paint on them.

They aren't the best I can do, but I am happy with the result considering they only took me one night to paint, base and flock.

What I've done is made a single BG of 4 Bases on 2 40x30mm bases. I had enough figures left over to make a single base of 40x15, so I have the choice (eventually) of having a BG of 6, or a casualty replacement... not that Romans take casualties right? err... RIGHT?

Sorry if the pictures are a bit big.

Yes, you're right. I couldn't get closer to make them bigger without losing focus. The camera isn't the latest in technology. My other camera would make them look like giants, but that's a film camera. Besides, you don't want to get too close to them. They don't look that great up close :)

Personally, I like the effect of the 'diorama', but I guess it's individual taste.

I painted the front edge of the base dark green and the side and rear black because I'm going to put the light horse on 40x40mm square bases and have them running around all over the place 'skirmishing', so need a way of distinguishing the front edge.

Cataphracts are painted and based, but I have to flock them and one BG of light horse is mostly finished.

They're surprisingly fun to paint. I think it's because they are so small and easy that I don't have to worry too much about detail. Even the shield patterns are nice and easy. There are better shield patterns around, and one day I might get some Little Big Men transfers, but in the mean time...
