what to do with half a gallic army

Post by expendablecinc »

I have a firend with a load of Gauls looking to morph them into something else as a second army for the same period. can anyone suggest armies that can have Gauls/Galatians as either an ally or as a decent sized internal contingent?

If you don't mind re-basing - Ancient British with Roman Allies.

By the time you pay for Chariots and Roman Allies you don't have many points left over for MF Brits.
Viking (15mm)
Syracusan (15mm)
Palmyran (10mm - 15mm basing)

Early Successor (Antiginas Gonatas) can have a Galatian ally and would be a good starting point for the other hellenistic and successor armies.

Ancient brits (as mentioned), Caledonian, Early Germans used Gallic Allies, Spanish/Celiberian.

The following armies use Galatians as allies, that I can recall:

Later Macedonian, Pergamene, Later Seleucid, Later Ptolemaic, Pontic, Bosporan, I think.

So, they are VERY useful minis!

The Allied Armiy Cross Reference file found at http://www.fieldofglory.com/listofallies.html can help you with finding the armies that use Gaulic or Galation as an Ally. Just scroll down to the bottom of p. 6 and the top of p. 7.
