Transferring units between armies plus auto saves

Just preparing for my first PBEM game and I have a question, probably lots more to come. If I have two armies in the same area is it possible to transfer units from one army to the other? If yes, what is the procedure?

Under options I couldn't find a toggle to disable auto saves. Is this possible?

Detach to a separate army (lets call it army C) the units to from army A which you wish to transfer to army B. Then merge C with B.

In multiplayer? No it isn't.

Autosave are not really relevant in PBEM as everything is on a distant server.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. Playing some turns solo to learn various game mechanics before we start our PBEM so wondering if I can disable auto save for single player?
