Access violation with Strategy Bundle

Post by SteamSlither »

OK I just got the strategy bundle with Armageddon, Gladius, and Sanctus (what a DEAL)

Armageddon and Sanctus launch just fine and I was able to start a game. However this one Gladius, after I clicked 'play' on the launch menu it went to a black screen where it looked like it was attempting to play a video with the round circle arrow spinning in the bottom.

Then the message box pops up and states in a small sentence there is some kind of access violation and probably the same type referred into the quote below(from thread title: Error 0xc00007b - game doesn't launch) .

Since I didn't have any DLC and didn't need the latest patch, I followed the instructions as posted in the quote below and loaded up 1.2.6 legacy.
Now the game wants to run and I have since started a turn.
So it seems the latest update introduced some things which are different enough from the previous patch that crashes rather loading up the game.

If at all possible this latest patch should be analyzed as to what these things are and why they don't run on computers they previously ran on.

Since falling back to 1.2.6 seems to work for the Gladius in strategy bundle(no advanced DLC there), at least those individuals that have it, can try dropping back to an earlier version, and others, if possible not using DLC that requires the later update until that is worked out like Chaos.

VPaulus wrote: Sat Nov 14, 2020 12:11 pm Has you haven't a dedicated video card you can try the following:

Open Steam client and in your games library click with the right mouse button over the Warhammer 40,000 Gladius - Relic of War. In the new window click on "Betas" tab. Under "Select the beta you would like to opt for:", select "legacy 1.2.6 Tyranids (OpenGL 4.0)" from the drop down menu. Close the window and run the game.

Please note that in this case, the versions are supported, but will not receive further patches and will not be able to get the newer DLCs, such as Chaos. So if your computer currently cannot support the Vulkan update, then this will be the case for you, where you need to use the OpenGL update and then will not be able to run future patches or DLC.
Anyway THANK YOU for this solution for the Strategy Bundle!!!

FYI site that lists Vulcan supported cards (contingent upon updating video drivers for said card) https://www.khronos.org/conformance/ado ... cts/vulkan

UPDATE
-------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE
After updating graphic drivers got the game to run on 1.7.3 , but if I exit out to Windows, it black screens locks up the computer and restarts.
On occasion it black screens locks up the computer and does not restart. I have to manually shut down the computer, then turn it on.
in any case I get a message Windows has experienced an error and wants to send a message to Microsoft
A game should not crash the computer.

(Wonder if it is a good idea to massively driver update a current game leaving behind a lot of machines behind unable to use DLC in the state of the art patch process, this I can understand for a NEW game entirely
ANYWAY legacy still works for the main game
which DLC though-- Tyranids? Reinforcement Pack? any others?)

in any case there is no Gladius error log because I gather the computer is locked up before the game can generate one
Nevertheless have
Gladius_debug.zip
DXdiag and MSinfo data screenshot showing latest driver
(89.79 KiB) Downloaded 94 times
DXdiag and MSinfo data attached

Tried a Few other things to get this game to run beyond 1.2.6 such as downloading 1.5.0 from Matrix rather than use the Steam version.
1.5.0 just loads to a black screen locks up the computer and restarts the computer. NOT GOOD.
I thought this might be an implementation with Vulcan in general, but a visit this site
https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/List_of_Vulkan_games
And some of those games I run such as Mad Max and Doom 2016 with no noticeable issues and with much older drivers than what I now updated with .
I do notice that those games are using entirely different engines, of the engines listed there, the Proxy Engine is not listed in use with any other game using Vulkan at this time at that site.
Anyway Number of Vukan games listed 96
Open GL games 1147

In the meantime I have the other two games in the strategy bundle Armageddon and Sanctus I have yet to fully explore. I bought that bundle because I wanted to see which game I would be most interested in to focus future DLC purchases on. Gladius does run under legacy so I at least play the game though will miss out on the patches beyond 126 and updated dlc; so the strategy bundle was definitely a worthwhile buy.

Yes, this is an awfull bad move. Devs should have reimburse the game to the non-vulkan customers, or buy them a new graphic card, as they finally lied in the requirments, they continue the game without them.
