The Standard Wagon

Please excuse the impatience, but could some one please explain to me how the Standard Wagon unit is suppose to be used in this game?
Having watched some of the YouTube videos circulating at the moment, I am left confused as to whether this unit exerts a unique zone of influence as it were, or is purely a particularly strong unit.

The effect of the latter paragraph is that they are extremely difficult to destroy.


Why didn't didn't we use a simply CT modifier for having a standard wagon? Because it would be OP if it affected the whole army, and it would not reflect their historical effect if it only affected nearby units.

Thank you for the explanation, and personally I like the game design for this unit.
The only further question that comes to mind is what defines the centre of an army's deployment, though that can wait.

It is the average of the X and Y positions of all of the non-routed on-map units in the army, weighted 2:1 in favour of non-light units.

Any thoughts about creating a stationary unit with the same effect as the Standard Wagon, and calling it a "Baggage Camp?" Make it a juicy target somewhere behind the opponents' lines?

Obviously as the battle progresses the 'centre' will shift position, Is there a option to display this on the map? Or has it been found that in practise the '... no more than 4 squares further away from the enemy centre then is their own army's centre.' makes such a feature of little value?

As you say, it isn't needed in practice. The rule was only instituted to stop players from keeping their Standard Wagon safe at the back of the map. If they don't try to exploit the rules by putting the Standard Wagon in odd positions, they should never encounter the issue of it not counting.

Perhaps for a special battle type where one side or the other has a baggage camp/tent/whatever to capture/rout that automatically wins/loses the battle?

How does the computer opponent handle the wagon when using or fighting against it? Does it prioritise attacking it? It looks extremely tough and I’m worried it will be too easy to exploit it’s benefits against a cpu army.

It does not prioritise attacking it. As it is a tough nut to crack, AI units are likely to seek an easier target if they have a choice.
