(IRL) Artillery

Post by Athos1660 »

I read an interesting paper :
Fr. Naulet, Le rôle de l'artillery dans la bataille sous les règnes de Louis XIV et Louis XV, in Combattre et gouverner.

... which could be translated by "The role of the artillery on the battlefield under the reigns of Louis XIV and Louis XV". Thus it mainly concerns the period 1665-1765 and the French army.

The author did a doctoral thesis based on the analysis of the Archives and wrote a book, reviewed by G. Cox, on the subject.

Apart from an interesting analysis, it also provides for the period (with some data for the earlier 1st half of the 17th century) the evolution of two interesting indicators on the battlefield/during the campaigns :
- the number of guns per 1000 soldiers
- % of light/medium/heavy guns

I was wondering whether such data were available for other armies/nations and for our whole period, the Renaissance. Are there some interesting books/papers on this subject ?
