Allied options in 42/43/44

Hi,

I'd like to hear from some of the more experienced PBEM players some thoughts on western allied strategy in 42/43/44.

For example I'm in January '42 in a game now where Soviets are reasonably strong going into spring '42 but even a strong Red Army can get gutted in '42 by the Germans so it would be nice to distract Germany.

UK holds
Libya,
Bergen port in Norway.

Germans hold
Spain
not Greece

What are some options for the US/UK? Obviously going for Norway is a possibility but that doesn't lead anywhere I guess.
Invading Spain would be tough due to terrain and Germans can rail to any threatened port - also no airbase to support assaults on Spain
Invading Sardinia/Sicily is possible but attacking Italy seems like a nightmare of terrain and Luftwaffe power in 42/43
Invading southern France is probably worse than Italy w/ fewer places to base air support
Invading north France would have an airbase (England) but face a vicious German response and it would be panzer country

Go for Norway then Denmark maybe?
Plow into Sardinia/Corsica/Sicily then Italy in the teeth of bad terrain?
Bold stroke into France?
Grind into Spain using ship supply and hope to eventually get a port?
