I just played the Hastings scenario last night, as the English. I lost the battle due to 60% rout-age, but may have won the war ... thanks to a lowly fyrd spearman, William of Normandy will never be king!

I realise that this video was from the beta, so may I ask if that 'Epic Battle' was subsequently adjusted?
The reason why I am asking is because the forces deployed are markedly different from those that I encountered last night (post release version). That is taking into account the variation possible due to additional force selection.
Also having checked the manual's relevant parts there is no mention of game difficulty settings having any bearing on the epic battles; or at least that I noticed.

Many thanks.

I did some quick testing, and indeed higher difficulty does seem to provide your opponent in Epic battles additional forces.

Harold Godwinson, surely? Harald Hardrada got an arrow through this throat at Stamford Bridge a few weeks earlier.

Thank you :)
I am also doing another play through and, indeed the difficulty setting does affect the number of troop points available.
Must have missed that reference in the manual; but it does prompt another question regarding at what level were the epic battles designed to be played at from the 'accuracy' point of view (subject for another thread after dinner though).

There is pretty much no Medieval battle where the exact numbers involved on each side is known. Hence there is plenty of leeway to vary the numbers for the different difficulty settings without departing from the range of possible historical numbers. This also makes it pretty much impossible to say which difficulty setting gives the most historically realistic numbers.

I just played Hastings as the English on IV setting. Very close and enjoyable battle which I just won. The AI did well overall with just a few mistakes. I can recommend this battle to everyone. It really feels like you are at Hastings as you take all the Norman arrows and wonder what to do v the Knights...
