Order of Battle - Join the Winter Tournament

Post by Edmon »

A new tournament for Order of Battle: World War II is about to begin and this time you'll be closer than ever to your enemy. The tournament includes three maps, all featuring close encounters and closely matched battles.

Image
  • Two Bridges is a small, tight map featuring the USA vs the USA with 3 paths to fight over and lots of enemy structures to destroy. Earn cash for destroying enemy bunkers and Victory Points for pushing them back from the central victory locations.
  • Play as Germans and Italians in the middle of a sandstorm in the map Sandstorm at the Oasis
  • The Crescent Bay is a new scenario that will put you in the shoes of the Japanese and Americans, fighting each other over harbours and oil infrastructure.

If you’re not familiar with Slitherine’s PBEM system, here’s how it works: the system will pair you with opponents and create your PBEM games for you automatically. You will be notified by mail of when the tournament is starting and when it is time to play your turns. The tournament follows the Swiss Tournament rules.

Sign up to test your skills and climb the leaderboard! All you need to do is opt in here and own at least one Order of Battle DLC.

Have fun!

Nice! Would be my first multiplayer experience w/ OOB.

Three Questions:
1. One Round takes 14 days. Okay. But how much space/time is there between the single turns during a round?
2. Can one download the maps to come up w/ a tactic?
3.
December 15 , 16:00
- Which time zone?

Hi,

1. The time between single turns entirely depends on the players. If they're in distant timezones, then it might be quite large, or you could find yourself shooting turns back and forth and complete your games in a couple of days
2. The first two maps are already in the game, the third will be added in a patch shortly
3. 1600 UTC

Ta!

Okay Thanks!
3. So then it is 1500 for me (MEZ). But I only come home 1600. Will it be okay? The other player starts the match and I make my turn .. let's say 2h later?

Yep, this is all asynchronous, so you play your turns when you can.

I am trying to get to the Winter Tournament. I played last night but now it's telling me my Version is out-of-date and to 'update through the launcher'. There is no other info. Where is the launcher? I see no other instructions. Please help.

You are supposed to play both scenarios, this is a mirror-game tournament.
You just have to wait for opponent starting the other scenario.

Didn't know that ... feels like playing two chess games against the same opponent, one starting w/ white one w/ black ... but not having a "first turn advantage"
... maybe this makes more sense when the map is not mirrored and both parties don't use the same nation ...

The purchase options provide enough diversity to make the battle on a mirrored map interesting.
This is probably the third tournament using this particular scenario and I'm trying different unit compositions each time.
But still manages to lose :D

Err... Shards, you getting a bye in the first round, so top of the leaderboard with a full clear score, having already come quite high in the other tournaments.

I know it's swiss chess but giving a player 150 points (almost max as per rules?) that came 1st, 3rd and 2nd in the respective 3 previous tournaments....

How does that work then? Asking for a friend :)

75 points is the default BYE value. Two games = 2 x 75 = 150

I don't think that 150 will leave me very near the top of the leaderboard (as you say 150 is about the max in a single game, but that's a fantastic win in a single game).

For comparison, I got 279 in the last round I played ;-)

(p.s. the Bye is determined by the system, I'd much rather be playing than watching thank you very much :) )

Hallo
Danke

They were both really good matches! The cavalry tanks gained me good initial ground but you refused to let me gain total superiority in their wake and closed off almost all of my thrusts.
