Units never surrendering
Is there a way to see if a unit will never surrender ? It’s a bit frustrating to carefully surround a pricy unit and discover at the end of the process that it will never surrender.

Assuming you are referring to special leader units...

Mousing over the icons in a unit's bottom left panel provides a wealth of extra information beyond the symbology.
This is important in the DLC, because No Surrender enemy units are a strong counter to players who deploy combo tactics (Overwhelming Attack + Envelopment). Charles de Gaulle in upcoming 1940 is especially obstinate in this regard.

Okay, the second one is definitely No Surrender like Kerensky said, the third one looks like No Supply which is new, I think the first is No Retreat, and that last one I believe is Prudent.Kerensky wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 10:57 pm Assuming you are referring to special leader units...

Hmm. Yeah, Retreats and Surrenders aren't going to work, and Encirclements and Suppression won't be quite as effective either. And then having a Char B1s defense with Prudent increasing it even higher the more Damaged he is...
I can already feel the phantom frustration I know I'm going to feel facing him when 1940 releases.
Here's hoping we get some good AT guns and Panzerjagers before he shows up.

"Charles de Gaulle" has an alternate 'Maxim' besides...Liberte'-Liberte'-Liberte'... it is.... "I have Presence!... I have Charm!... I do Push-Ups... with one Arm!".

Re: Units never surrendering
Is that stahlhelm on the unit strength icon new? Does it indicate that the unit has one hero? If it's not new, then I have somehow not noticed it all this time. With that image so zoomed in, I thought "Why does a French unit have a German helmet icon?" then realized it's probably just a common silhouette used regardless of nationality.
Welcome to my thought process, everybody! Sorry for the mess.

Yes, it's always been there on any unit that has a Hero. Don't worry about not noticing it, unless you are actively watching for it or are zoomed in close enough it's hard to see.Scrapulous wrote: ↑Mon Dec 07, 2020 9:24 pm Is that stahlhelm on the unit strength icon new? Hero icon visibility helps a lot (better than the monopoly icon there used to be) and once you know what to look for, some people like having a small and subtle UI element to represent a hero on a unit. Panzer General 2 was similar, that game used a national icon on the side of the strength plate, where Panzer Corps 2 decided to go with a flag/banner and helmet.
That said, applying camo to special units is something that is really helpful to catch your eye on the existence of special enemy units. Charles de Gaulle is unmistakable, and his 4th Division also will also appear in a non-standard camo pattern to help spotlight their importance, and above average unit strengths.

The ribbon didn't seem new to me (it's how I detected enemy heroes), but the helm did. Maybe I just never noticed that it was helmet-shaped because I don't zoom in that far? Or maybe I forgot - I've been playing Close Combat a lot since finishing AO'39, and maybe modern features just take me by surprise now
