Questions.

Post by stormbringer3 »

I'm thinking of buying this. When it first came out there were posts about high CPU usage and overheating. Has this been fixed? Traits are new to this game. I understand that you must use Killer Team to get heroes in the SCW DLC. How many positive traits can you use before you have to pick a negative trait?
Thanks.

1. I haven't really noticed issues with overheating or CPU usage myself, so can't really answer there.

2. Each Trait adds (Negative Traits) or subtracts (Positive Traits) 1-2 Points. The default has you start with 2 points free, but there is an advanced option you can select when starting a campaign to adjust starting points from 0 all the way to 10. So the amount of Positive Traits you can take before needing Negative Traits is usually 1 or 2 at default, but can be increased.

3. While Killer Team is the only way to get Heroes in SCW's first scenario, you can still get Heroes in the overall Campaign without it. Every scenario after the first scenario in both SCW and the base Campaign gives you 1 Hero at the start of the mission. There is also occasional Heroes you can buy with Commendation Points you earn from completing Bonus Objectives. Starting from 1939 and likely later Axis Operations does start you with a number Heroes for free to help balance starting there instead of importing an elite Core from previous Axis Operations.

Hope this helps.

That sure did help. I have another question. I was looking at update threads and it seems that the base game download is a little over 5 gigs. Does anyone know how many gigs in the latest update? I have 19 gigs left in my dataplan which has to last until Dec. 14. Living in a rural area has internet drawbacks.

Right now the Slitherline updates are ~5G, they have been posting full installs as updates, not incrementally.
The AO40 DLC release Dec 10 should include an update, so another 5G.

Note: Steam does incremental updates and might save download usage.
But Steam likes to update itself a lot on it's own.
You can buy from Steam, or buy from Slitherline and get a Steam Key.
You can use Steam offline, which will save you from random downloads.
You would also want to turn off Steam cloud storage of saved games.
There comes a time on every project when it is time to shoot the engineer and ship the damn thing.

Dalfrede, thanks for the answer. That takes this off the table for me. I always buy through the Matrix store. I'm one of those who won't use Steam.

It’s too bad there’s no demo to test.
I have never had a big problem with the game with a hp gamer laptop.
The advantage with steam is an automatic update and you can get your money back for 14 days after the purchase if you are not satisfied with the game.
