Both Greek commanders foolishly charged headlong into the Persian lines, changing history for the worst.^^ Greeks on both sides got cut up by Persian archers, then finished off by flanks and being ganged up. GG Captain it was fun playing, and real, real close at the end; one more unit regaining cohesion and it would be totally different scoring.

Match score 1-1. Aetius39 wins on tie-breaker 34-33.

An astonishingly close game. I suspect that if either of us had been more calculating in our approach to the margin of victory then they could have gained the upper hand. Easy to say after the event, but it was delightful to see the mirror matches unfold in different ways.
Two very enjoyable games. Thanks, Aetius - a worthy winner.

kraff (Kushan 130 BC-476 AD) beat edb1815 (Arab City 300-633 AD with Sassanid 477-590 AD allies): 61-32.

Arabs and their Sassanid allies advanced bravely and gained an upper hand. For a few turns Kushans were in serious trouble, but then the Sassanid elephants broke ranks in the centre of the line. Through that gap charged the Kushan elephants causing further morale drops and routs in surrounding foot troops and turning the tables. Thank you for the game.

Weekly round-up
A fifth win of the season for Nosy_Rat (Spanish) moved him back into second place behind Macedonczyk (Andalusian) who now needs 2 wins from his remaining three matches to become champion of this section. A strong finish by XLegione (Arab Conquest) could see him finish in the bronze medal position ahead of harveylh (Frankish). At the bottom the relegation is between Triarii (Dailami) and Sennacherib (Umayyad) at the moment with both players having no points at all so far this season. In Division B Cunningcairn (German) extended his winning run to 7 matches to secure runners-up spot and give himself a reasonable chance of discretionary promotion to the top flight next season. At the bottom kraff (Ghaznavid) must get something from his last match against sunnyboy (Polish) to have any chance of avoiding relegation. Stew101 moved back to the top of Division C with a win in his last match which means that Aetius39 (Andalusian) needs at least 2 points from his last match with Karvon (Arab Conquest) to take the automatic promotion place. At the bottom Najanaja (Rajput) needs 5 points from his last 2 matches to overtake grumpydaddy845 (Dailami) and avoid relegation. If not Rajput will be kaput. Nothing to report from Division D this week, while in Division E 2 defeats for leader kronenblatt (Rus) in his final 2 matches has very much much left the door open for either DryNick (Arab Conquest) or Blagrot (British) to win automatic promotion. At the bottom Morat (French) needs just 1 point from his last 3 matches to relegate ggarynorman (Pictish). In Division F leader carpenkm (Norman) just needs 2 points from his last 2 matches, one of which is against second-placed toska (German) to win automatic promotion.

Thanks for the game. The Huns got wrong footed from the start by Nike wearing war bands charging out in foront of the rest of the Hunnic army into the middle of the horse tribesmen and never recovered from that.

Weekly round-up
pompeytheflatulent returned to the top of Division A with 2 wins against hidde and only needs to avoid 2 heavy defeats against harveylh to be the new champion of the Biblical section. In Division B paulmcneil ended his relegation worries with a double win against schmolywar leaving batesmotel as the player in most danger 5 points adrift of Challenge1. Division C is finished now while SawyerK is relegated from Division D after only managing to beat fellow struggler Barrold713 once in their 2 matches together. An exciting finish in Division E where random27 secured a double win against Blagrot means that deeter also needs a double win against Blagrot to secure 8 more points to win this division. If deeter manages to get 7 points then the top place will be tied. Division F concluded this week with 2 wins for DryNick to give him third place and McHarg just avoided the wooden spoon by sharing the spoils over 2 matches with fellow struggler SSB.

And indeed the next turn they did claim success, the Lydian lancers and chariots disappointed me in both games and the larger numbers and veterans of the Greek hoplites won out. Thanks for the games Deeter, the mirror matches were an excellent idea.

Under a hail of light infantry fire, Kyreneans still managed to gang up on Graeco-Bactrian pikes and cataphracts, but it was almost a draw until the last turn when the Kyreneans managed to rout an elephant. Close game, thanks for playing TomoeGozen!
