I would love a MARKET-GARDEN themed tournament

Re: Invasion Operations Tournament
My aircraft comment was part of a broader lesson Wake Island taught me RP management. I wonder how many US players made the mistake I made of concluding at the half-way point that they wouldn't run out of RP until maybe the very end. I grossly underestimated what the 4th wave of Japanese reinforcements would look like and this allowed my esteemed opponent to take the HQ on the last turn. Had I eschewed even one repair of aircraft I think I would have had enough to rebuild a Marine unit on the HQ rather than trying to defend it with hapless artillery. :-\
While there is much to be said for battlefield tactics, I am increasingly of the opinion that "non-battle" decisions are what separates the great from the merely good...

Re: Invasion Operations Tournament
Not making a decision can be just as powerful as making one at times!
P.s. as the designer, it gratifies me greatly to see games getting right to the death like this!

Re: Invasion Operations Tournament
Thanks for the kind words, but my 'skill' was limited to not being rolled over by the skillfully crushing, almost uncontested advance of Celeborn' IJN marines from the beaches. The great thing about being crushed by such able players in the tournaments is the lessons you can learn watching their gameplay
PS: Wake island was already a very well designed scenario, now it's great
Re: Invasion Operations Tournament
In our Wake scenario my opponent grabbed one HQ at the very last turn as well. Good scenario.
Re: Invasion Operations Tournament
by now both scenario were very well built

Re: Invasion Operations Tournament
Any update on the next tournament?
Re: Invasion Operations Tournament
Good luck in Round 3 all!
I have plans for the next tournament. Probably start mid-Dec, but we've got to release a patch when this tournament end and also update the servers, so I'm going to wait until that work is completed successfully before starting a new 6-week tourney

Re: Invasion Operations Tournament
I hate to gripe, but my opponent who was playing quite regularly decided to stop playing when things where not looking good for him/her. In fact, at turn 13, in order to stop me from taking his/her HQ let the time run out. I wish there was some way to deal with this, since the Swiss time clock did not award me any additional points. Otherwise having lots of fun. Thanks!
Re: Invasion Operations Tournament
I'm sorry to hear that. That's quite poor form, especially as you don't lose any points if your opponent does well.
Fwiw, the most you could have gained is 11 more points as the system will never adjust the scores above the default bye score (75). As you were right at the end of the map, I'd expect that it didn't make any score adjustments at all

Re: Invasion Operations Tournament
Perhaps someday there will be a mechanism for giving your opponent a basic "sportsmanship" score. A tournament that only allowed players of a certain average score or higher would seemingly reduce the risk of this sort of thing (luckily I drew two wonderful opponents in AlexBanet and chema_cagi)

Re: Invasion Operations Tournament
I have noticed that it makes a big difference which setup file I open first. Best example is the third game: Karjalan Kesa T. I opened the GE file first and designed my forces anticipating a forward Russian defense. Had I opened the Russian setup file first, I would have realized it was a "Race to the Rhine" game. There should be a way to tell which file is the "offense" setup file, and which is the "defense" setup file.
Otherwise, a great tournament with great opponents. Thanks.

Celeborn --
I'm sorry I missed this tournament -- thought I signed up but was left out when the games went up. I needed to finish up the makens of my campaign, anyway.
Good luck, all -- see ye next tourney!

'twas ever thus. Difference between Ike and Patton. Although it works in reverse when considering McLellan and Grant...opinion that "non-battle" decisions are what separates the great from the merely good...

Re: Invasion Operations Tournament
I got my butt kicked in the third scenario but it was so much fun. Never learned so much in 15 turns. I have tried not to misuse the disband function, only using it when I really needed the CP's. I enjoyed seeing all my soviet units getting wiped out in the last few turns, so realistic. Great tournament! Will play again

I believe Judicious Use of Disband is an advanced elective at OOB University...maybe even part of the graduate school

Re: Invasion Operations Tournament
What is the deadline for the 3rd (Final Round)? I have an opponent who has not taken a turn in a few days....no biggie yet (I think) but curious about the deadline nonetheless.
