SCW Communists
when they enter the fray, should you just sit on the sideline for awhile and let them fight it out?

It's certainly an option. Letting the AI fight each other and weaken themselves before you attack makes it their forces weaker. You do miss out on some experiance earning, but will probably spend less Prestige for repairs. Even if you attack though, most of the forces on the west side of the city tend to stay over there fighting each other until you start crossing the river.scorehouse wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 10:53 am when they enter the fray, should you just sit on the sideline for awhile and let them fight it out?

Communists ?
Re: SCW Communists
I first let the Republicans (purple team) beat their heads against my dug in infantry which I support with my artillery during setup/1st turn. I also attack any enemy vehicles that are not protected by AA guns. Some of my forces are deployed way to the East and take our those few Communist (red team) forces there and then proceed to cross the river on the bottom center of the map and seize the victory location and airfield. That group then moves up the left side of the map taking that western airfield. Meanwhile, I have a smaller force move North to flank and take the northern most purple team victory hex. They get joined by my wall of infantry once they enemy of both sides have been beaten down somewhat. So in effect, I ultimately attack from North, East, and South. Some of the enemy end up being surrounded by a combination of my troops and the 3rd party's troops. Once I have cleared the right side of the map, I mop up the broken remnants left on the left side.scorehouse wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 10:53 am when they enter the fray, should you just sit on the sideline for awhile and let them fight it out?
So, yes, to a certain extant I don't do a full press until the red and purple teams have had a chance to beat up on one another while I am selective in where I attack either of them myself, careful not to overcommit my forces.
Hope this helps.

thanks
Re: SCW Communists
TL:DR, the climax of the Spanish Civil War campaign is a three way battle between the Player and Nationalist Forces on one side, the remaining Moderate-ish (or at least non-Stalinist) Republicans on another, and the Stalinist Communists on the third. The briefing explains this a bit more, but TL:DR 11th hour power plays at the worst possible moment led to some really counter-productive infighting while the Nacionalistas were literally at their throats.

As soon as I read about that historical note, I knew I had to bring it to life in a scenario.Turtler wrote: ↑Fri Nov 06, 2020 2:27 pm
