biblical Bw* Cav

Post by hazelbark »

Got my first army out in the biblical period since the beta. LOVED IT. New feel.

The various Cav units that are either BW*, Lt Sp, Sw or 1/2 BW, Sw and 1/2 Lt Sp, Sw

Which version do you fancy?

I started off planning for Armourd cav and thought 1/2 & 1/2 would work fine to delivery firepower. But then swtiched to protected and forget what happens when enemy bow shoot at protected cav two deep.

So I am thinking th protected Cav need to be BW*.

What are other peoples take?

I am like you still in two minds.

I can see advantages to the 1/2 and 1/2 approach but also to the Bw* one. The first time I tried them I went Bw*, next time I will try 1/2 and 1/2 then I will decide.

The main driving factor in favour of 1/2 and 1/2 is that the BG is slightly cheaper than the Bw* one

And you may loose a base and still be able to shoot with two dices, while being Bw* is not possible.

In an army that can have their cav as virtually any of the above combinations I am taking them all as drilled/armoured/superior

the entirely bow armed go one deep as skirmishers and the Bw* lurking aroudn the sides 2 deep.

- being on the wings they are less likely to need to evade so being 2 deep is ok.
- having 2 Lt Spear in the front rank and being 2 deep makes them good interceptors if it looks like the evaders may get caught.

The good thing with lt sp in the front adn Bw at the rear is that the group can expand by 2 bases and put two shooting dice to the BGs left or right so you have more options with changing the arc of fire for your two shooting dice.

That's a good idea that I had not thought of before. It may tip the balance in my mind toward the 1/2 and 1/2 BGs.

Yes and I think if armoured it is an easier call to go 1/2 1/2. It is the protected that I fear needs the bw*
