Imperator: Rome vs Field of Glory: Empires?

Post by fred022 »

I know FOGE did better than Imperator at launch, but with updates, patches and content being added, which seems to be a better purchase for the long run?

Which of the two is more polished, with stronger AI and immersive campaigns?

I play both as Epirus. Field of glory empires is whole other game is so much more complete. Not only you can incorporate battles in Field of Glory II where you can control battles rather than get some numbers, but Field of Glory Empires has far more buildings, the decadence system that explains how empires fall, everything is in another level. I have said in paradox and steam forums that I:R should take as example of development Field of glory empires, but as usually the fans that are so far removed would use logical fallacies to stop it. They don't allow constructive criticism thus cannot see past their "bias". While Imperator Rome has done updates is far from the rest of their games, they have not put enough efforts and invested in imperator Rome, as they did with crusader kings and Heart of iron. I actually have played their previous game Europa Universalis - Rome have the gold version and i think that is much better than I:R and is very unfortunate that this era has left behind and did not get as much effort from paradox devs with Imperator Rome.

Imperator Rome: how many forum should I build in this city
FOGE: I really wanted to build that building, but its not currently offered, but this building would also be really nice and support the other building in the neighbour province, or should I build it or reroll hoping it will show up?
There are 10 kind of hard problems in computer science, naming, cache invalidations and off-by-one errors.
There are also 10 kinds of people, those who understand binary and those who do not.

Right now, FOGE is more polished and has more options, but I:R will probably get one or more major expansions over the next year or two, so a comparison of the "end products" is still anyone's guess.

For example, comparing the initial release of Hearths of Iron III to its final expansion would require basically throwing out 50-70% of what you thought you knew and replacing it with other systems. For the moment, however, FOGE seems like the safer bet.
