One thing to consider is to try and make the blend between to adjacent terrain kind of seamless.
Field/rice paddies/desert vs open, difficult vs mountain etc
I think the 3d maps look better when they reflect a real-life aerial view (but each terrain must be easily recognizable by the player).
For instance, I asked Gabeknight for a high-grass (better cover for inf and small vehicles) terrain for Korea (and Pacific campaigns).
In the editor open/high grass can and should have quite different imgaes. But in the game they should be fairly similar.
The winter versions could be simply identical as snow would cover them both.
Looking forward to all terrain developments.

Sandstorm mainly uses the Arid climate with different grass, mountain, rocks(?), and dirty-road textures. Someone shouldn't use the same textures like with the default climate.
The graphics/terrain/climate files give a clue what is changed for each climate.

TBH I would give this grass completely yellow or rust-colored. Have you ever watched a football game in Africa or the Middle East? The grass in many stadiums has this color

I'll have to admit that I didn't take a closer look yet, as this has no real priority for me at the moment.
Personally I like the OoB stock terrain and would only want to ADD new terrain (like the high grass in the KoreanMod) or slightly change the existing. But some of your tests look amazing, like the farmland or desert. When I've got more time I have to experiment a bit more with those myself.
