Competitition army options?

Post by Robert241167 »

Hi everyone

After my last tragic outing with the Teutonics I have another 2 tournaments on the horizon and 2 other armies I can take.

The first tournament is Open and 3 games at 650AP on 5' by 3'.

The second tournament is Ancient or Medieval and 6 games at 800AP on 6' by 4'.

The 2 armies up for consideration are Late Republican Romans and the Catalan Company.

I would appreciate your thoughts on the best army to use for each tournament to enable me to improve on my last outing.

Thanks

Rob

Play better. Don't give up easily on an army. The Teutonics might not be Tier 1 but they certainly should be good enough to win games even against Tier 1 armies. FWIW LRR and Catalans are as good or as bad as the Teutonics.

Well 650 points changes some armies and the smaller board could crap knights the striking power of the Teuts.

At 800 My teuts were
4 x TC
2 x LH
1 x LF bow
1 x XB 4
1x 8 MF def spear
1 x XB 6
1 x CV turcopole
1 x CV XB
1 x KN av drill
1 x KN sup undril
2 x KN brotherhood

The idea is the MF can struggle for one patch of uneven or pressure enemy foot bow. The KN are very manuverable.
The LH and CV is just to help hold off the enemy mounted attack long enough for the brotherhood to engage.

Not a world beater but a solid army. 16 Kns is dangerous to everyone.

Romans and Catalans are two very different.

The Catalans can be a lot of fun enjoying terrain and being fast.

The Romans are head on death dealers.

Hi Rob
Hope you don't mind me dropping a word or two. Remember the challenge was'nt great for Knight armies so the Teutonics arn't all bad. I'm just back from playing in France and can vouch that Knights are good in a stright up open fight and remember never fight them with medium foot in the open nmot the best plan I've had  . BTW I came last so its catching but I got a nice large bottle of spirits to comfort me :)
First off the 650 points a hard comp to pick an army for. But for fun the medium offensive spear/impact foot of the Catalan company is good but against shooty armies you will suffer but remember they will not have that much room to shoot and evade also mind you can have knights as well.
If I had to chose I'd go for the Romans Armoured Superior Drilled Imact foot Skilled Sword what better. Saying that I'm think of taking 650 points Offensive Spears.
I take it the other comp is Britcon good choice either Knights or no Knights I'll be in the early period with any luck.

Will arrange things closer to Birmagham about the quite drink before the battles begin. It'll be fun whatever happens.

Hi Dave

All comments gratefully accepted.

With the Teutonics it was more the weak supports I was struggling with. Also I fancy an army where I may try using an IC and get terrain for a change.

Glad to see you are still in form and filling that last spot when I am not around.

Yes Britcon it is and I have a feel I may be best in ancients there.

See you in Birmingham.
