Field of Glory II: Medieval is coming soon
Re: Field of Glory II: Medieval is coming soon
I like see Medieval period covered but i am dissapointed to see covered in a separate title becuase we lose the FOG I ability to made battles between ancient and medieval armies.
Apart this the medieval title started with ok army list, in future sure we are going to see the other lists to cover more centuries and areas... curious about war wagons and defensive works (longbow units with stakes).
EDIT: i was unable to login with mi old forum account... i try recover it but cant do it and the link to support is not working.... i do it with Matrix account.

Actually, please, no. I do not really see how P&S could be improved. And, much as I like FoG2, if I could have only one of the two, I´d choose P&S; I prefer the artsy style units to the miniatures and where the rules differ, I´d usually also go with P&S.

Are there plans to go further east and include China, Korea and Japan?rbodleyscott wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 10:59 pm
The plan is still for the FOG2 system to eventually cover 2500 BC - 1500 AD from Britain to India, with FOG2: Ancients covering 2500 BC-1040 AD, and FOG2: Medieval covering 1040-1500 AD.
The Sengoku period would stretch the 1500 AD limit a bit but it would be great.
Earlier periods would comfortably fit in either FOG2: Ancients or FOG2: Medieval.
Re: Field of Glory II: Medieval is coming soon
You like the rules and art style of P&S ? So do I. Like a few of us who keep on playing this wonderful game, we both are part of "the Guard (that) dies but does not surrender" and will defend the game ‘until the end’

Unlike you, I like FoGII: Ancients miniature style too. As for its rules, they were primarily made for ancient warfare. I guess they would be adapted to early modern warfare.
How can P&S be improved ?
About 90% of the 415 Steam user reviews for FoGII: Ancients are positive while about 70% of the 196 Steam user reviews for P&S are positive. I guess this means that, according to many players, P&S can be improved in terms of art style, rules, UI, features (General, Undo, Move Whole Command, hotseat…), etc. Btw I have the feeling that ppl notably tend to prefer miniatures (ie realism) over the P&S art style.
I would definitely like to see a FoG2: Renaissance with miniatures, pretty period costumes and weapons and new features/rules/etc. ! However, this subject seem not topical.

I am certainly willing, once the Britain-India area is fully covered from 2500BC-1500 AD.JPJ wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 1:54 amAre there plans to go further east and include China, Korea and Japan?rbodleyscott wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 10:59 pm

The trees are bigger? Well, that's totally ruined my day. So disappointed...rbodleyscott wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 4:01 pmI think the trees are a bit bigger.TomoeGozen wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 3:50 pm Is it just me or has the scale of the figures compared to the scenery changed? It doesn't look so good to me scale wise but that may just be an illusion created by the snazzy colourful units and banners![]()
Nah, only kidding. Excited about this and will buy it the moment it's released

I actually do like the map screenshots. The terrain looks more... fleshed out? There’s more detail than the featureless green fields and grayish rough terrain.
Will there be an allies feature in FOG2:M, and if so, will there be any changes to how it works in ancients? I wouldn’t mind seeing allies treated as a separate contingent (in either game)

Re: Field of Glory II: Medieval is coming soon
I do not "dislike" it; it´s just 2nd best. FoG2 is to P&S like the Landsknecht to the Swiss Mercenary. Landsknechts are nothing to scoff at, but the Swiss are incomparable!

Not only is the P&S style so immensely aesthetically pleasing to look at, it is also most functional: It is really easier to take in the entire situation at a glance. There is a reason why Chess pieces are not over-detailed.
Re: Field of Glory II: Medieval is coming soon
Personally I found FoG2 to have easier graphics to parse, with everything needed to know quite visible at a glance with no need of icons. Like rooting enemies looking like fleeing people without arms, disordered regiments looking disordered, troops having easily visible weapons and armor levels etc.
I would rather see the FoG2 style to be used for other projects myself, but I understand we all have different tastes and ultimately for the future I simply hope the gameplay to continue being as good as it is, since it's the aspect I really like about the series.
All in all i'm very happy for this announcement, i'm looking forward to getting my hands on this game

Re: Field of Glory II: Medieval is coming soon
Good point!
This is certainly one of the reasons why I like P&S so much.
I guess it is related to the fact that the P&S style is inspired by period drawings of orders of battle that were meant to give the clearest possible picture of a battle using schematic (and logically still) units.
(edit)
Btw maybe the P&S 1 style could be a bit improved with a few unit animations :

... and a few additional individual animated soldiers around the units :

Not chess-like, but the period drawers felt it necessary...
(... and some more details on the units.)
Re: Field of Glory II: Medieval is coming soon
Yes, this is what I meant! The similarity to period drawings and paintings makes the game both so stylish and functional. That´s what I would want Horse and Musket to be like!Athos1660 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 20, 2020 7:54 amGood point!
