Exactly, people are different and also it's not about lives outside DL (everyone has that).

Thus, since people are different, my question concerns whether other DL players (including you) prefer to have many battles ongoing at the same time but play them at lower pace of exchanging turns, or to play only one or a few battles simultaneously but at a higher pace when exchanging turns, or something else.

Basically: do players prefer to stretch out all their games over the season, focus on one or a few games at a time, do all their games intensively at once, etc.? That's what I'm interested in hearing about.
Why do you want to know? Surely, there is no answer.. everyone is different?

I don't do it like you say.. I don't go lower or higher pace depending on the amount of games. I try for one turn a day. My own maximum is about 7-8 games on the go.

But, sometimes I will play 4-5 games and sometimes 9 depending on invites and if I am busy in the real world.

I'm curious about what different people prefer. There's no right or wrong here.

And people are different from each other, but you're not different from yourself, right? So there is an "answer" (no right or wrong, just an answer about one own's preferences (which may vary depending on circumstances)), and you just answered about your preferences. Thanks!

Yes, but why do you want to know? What I would say for tournaments is that one turn a day is a good idea. Someone sent me a message that he is away for a week so I know about that. If people don't take their turns for 3-4 days then it can slow everything down. I know Warg gets upset about slow players!

Players are different and there isn't a set way that the majority of players prefer playing. On top of that players circumstances might change during a season which means they do not play in their normal way. I think what is more interesting is why players decrease the number of turns per period when they are losing a game. This seems to be a common occurrence from posts and player comments.

I think that players just get demotivated when losing. It is like not wanting to do a melee because you know there is a good chance of your unit routing and maybe even causing a mass rout.

If you are winning a game everything feels good. You think about the game and feel happy. You are more likely and more motivated to play.

You have to also remember that this is a turn-based game. Sometimes from fairly early on you can see how a game will likely turn out. If you are plodding along and taking a turn a day then you may have to go a week or longer knowing that you will lose.

I think this is partly to do with game design. Yes, I have a lot of close MP games. But, these are usually always close like 12-10, 24-20, 40-38 and so on. I would say that most of the time once someone gets a 15-20 points lead there is only one winner. I don’t see many comebacks.

Hey, guys: no offense, but don't you read what I write? I'm interested in hearing about players' individual preferences (exactly because people are different), which I can learn from and understand and which may then form my own views and style of play in this respect. So I'm not really asking you or SLancaster to answer on behalf of the community (whether some form of majority or not), just what you prefer yourselves.
SLancaster wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2020 8:37 am And, what about you K? How many games do you like to play in one go? Do you take turns quicker when playing less games?
I prefer to keep a lower number of games active at any given point in time and finish them swiftly, not for them drag on for several weeks (deployment + 1 turn per day => 3,5 - 4,0 weeks for a game of full 24 turns, which is too long for my taste). I've had a lot of games going on simultaneously, but have noticed that I get less focused on each individual game and I also become stressed about the undertaking of having that many games ongoing. So I've deliberately cut it down to single-digits at least. Because as I said, I prefer to keep a high pace when playing an individual game, playing a turn and returning it swiftly if I see it coming in and am at my computer and can play. So I don't log in once per day and do the turns of the games in My Games and then log out "for the day", but instead wait and see if the games are coming back to me for yet another turn or hopefully several turns.

Yes, but to be fair, K... your question doesn't make much sense without context. Why do you want to know about how many turns people take? Of course the answer is going to be that everyone is different. What does that tell you? One guy takes a turn a day and another is slower. Some people like you take 3-4 turns a day. What is that really saying?

You have a habit for asking questions that don't really say much about your intentions. I had to ask you about your own preferences. I have asked you why you are asking these questions and still no answer.

I can understand if you were using the information for your own tournaments. If you were thinking about time-based rules and so on. But, you don't tell us anything about that.

But the individual answers are (aside from yours and Cunningcairn's :) ) not that "everyone is different". I'm curious about what different players prefer, and why, in this case when it comes to distributing their DL games over a season. Why? Because I may learn something from it and understand people's behaviour better, and maybe adjust my own if their perspectives makes sense to me. Learning from other people.

It's like your post on gamesmanship: you're after people's individual views on that, right? Because you're curious to understand what people think about those specific situations: isn't that why you made your post? Getting some feedback, like some people responding that (only examples) these were just small talk and innocent comments, that you're just a bad loser and should read up on the rules better, and others answering that you're absolutely right and that this is definitely gamesmanship. Or didn't you want any response, just to let off your steam? Then it's better, braver, and fairer to do it bilaterally to Mr X and Mr Z directly.

These types of questions and posts (yours too, by the way, if you actually wanted some feedback from the community) in my view create a forum that is dynamic and alive, with discussions on different perspectives, not necessarily about what is right or wrong.

So I will continue to ask these questions, until I get an instruction from a moderator (hopefully by PM then, and not a public post... :) ) not to.

Thanks for the reply. Your answer is pretty vague to me. What does it really mean? Understand people's behaviour better? How would you adjust?

People take their turns and you can see how fast or slow someone is.. maybe you want to find out who the faster players are? I know you like playing with Warg and he takes his turns quickly.. why don't you just tell us what you are really looking for? What is the prompt for asking this question about turn taking?

Of course everyone is different because you are getting different answers that make no sense without your context!

I mean, in my case it is pretty clear what I am asking. I had a few bad experiences and I wanted people's views on what happened. I explained clearly what happened and my own views on it.

As for X and Z, we have already talked. And, Z specifically said to continue to discuss on the forum not in private chat.

We can't have a discussion because you don't share anything. I have asked you a few times and you don't answer about your motives. If the question was put into context then it would be much clearer and understandable.

I may just have a different view on things. Please don't tell people that they can't read properly. That is just arrogant to be quite honest with you. Case closed.

kronenblatt I'll try to give you some satisfaction and will reveal, without investigating your ulterior motives :D that, working at home at the present, I like to make more turn a day and a maximum of 6-7 games at a time. Off course, with more games, the frequencies of my turns decrease.

As for me, I normally like to have 3-4 DL games going at a time, which gives me time for a few other games as well. As games wrap up, I post additional challenges. If I get challenged, I'll always pick up the game as I cut back on my busier open gaming during DL season.

As for turn around time, my daily schedule is rather flexible atm, as I'm teaching all my uni classes via website. Thus, if I see a turn notice pop up during my "office hours" at home, I'll take a break and play the turn. If the opponent happens to be free, sometimes we might play several turns during that time. Otherwise, I usually do turns a couple of times a day, early in the morning before I have to begin my day, or late in the evening before I go to bed. If I'm playing a lot of games, or larger battles, then it might drop to once a day.

Time zones can make a difference as well. If my opponent is in a closer time zone, it's more likely for us to be able to play multiple turns as our free times are more likely to line up. People on the opposite side of the world are more likely to be unavailable due to sleep and work schedule differences for such, but sometimes overlaps are possible and multiple turns completed.

I'm asking since I notice that with some players, I make several turns in one day; and with others, maximum one turn (even if I return the turn initiative 5-10 minutes after it showing up at my end). Whether in the same time zone or completely different.

Also: do you have any advice to give here, Pete, from earlier seasons' experiences?
Between FoGII, Sengoku Jidai, and Pike and Shot I tend to have about 20 matches going at a time. Last season I played 36 Digital League matches and it was far too many - this season I'm doing 19. I tend to post all my challenges at once, and let people pick them up whenever they're ready. What with real life outside of gaming, I generally have a 1-2 hour window a day where I can take turns, so I'm usually a 1 turn/day kinda guy unless I have a free weekend day. Generally, the majority of my League matches are wrapped up in about a month.

I suspect that if I wanted to play better, I'd play fewer games at a rapid pace, but I don't have a schedule that would allow that.

Depending on how much time I have and whether I'm in the mood for FoG2 or if I'm on a 4x strategy binge, my pace could vary wildly anywhere from a few turns per day to one or two turns per week. But if I don't have enough time to play all of the ongoing games I have in my inbox, I'll prioritize the games that are closer to completion and games with a strict deadline like the automated tournaments.

Ok , i'll join in ..
At the start of the DL I had around 16 games going but it was too many to be honest. Got confused and a little tired! Too many plans to remember :-) So now I've only got 6 on and I suspect I'll run them down a bit and then issue some more challenges. If someone challenges me I'll pick it up no matter how many games I've got though. If someone wants a game I'm not going to turn a game down :-)
I wonder kronenblatt if you were hoping for some insight in to how the 'better' players handle things? I know you are very keen to learn and improve. Is that where your query was coming from?
I suspect real life has a bigger influence on anyone for the amount of games they play or how often they get turns in than any clever tactical reasons :-)
