Losing to Lancers

Post by pbrandon »

I think we did this right, but just checking.

My Cav Lancers were charged by a BG of elephants

My 3 dice at -POA against the nellies 4. :?

Two rolls later, 3 hits for the Cav, none for the El. 8)

Do the elephants take a minus on their CT for losing to lancers?

We decided that they do take the minus (they lost, and they lost to guys with lances, even though the lancer POA didn't count).

Correct?

Well, it states "any troops testing for losing impact combat vs lancers" and "any troops" obviously also includes elephants, so you did right.
I is nowhere stated that the -1 doesn't count against troops that cancel the + POA of lancers.

Even if you were in uneven going, v's elephants charging your lancer in the flank I believe it would count. Since their impact weapon is lance and they lost to it.

Well not tooo sure about the flank bit, but a BG does represent a number of squadrons/units

Please don't bring these dice to Washington!

You won't need to. They are being issued.

Yes it counts.

Took the view it harder to win but hey - if you did win you the lances in the right place and it hurt. Well done the Rohirrim!!

Exactly! It's difficult for the cavalry/knights/cataphracts/whoever to stick the lance into the eye of oncoming elephant, but if you manage it, it still stings a lot!

It reminds me of my recent thoughts about 'five being God'. It doesn't matter who you are, if you keep rolling 5's you basically can't lose. Even with a --/++ Mob being charged in the flank by elite Legions will win by rolling nothing but 5's... and then if they do lose then they won't go fragmented anyway 8)

Well the post-script is that the Cav lost in the melee phase anyway and the El bolstered at the first opportunity

The rest of my army was in a bit of a state too.

The very first (miniatures) wargame I ever played was with a borrowed Samurai army vs someone with lots of elephants. This was WRG 5th or 6th (I can't remember). One group of elephants got onto my flank and marched from one side of the board to the other with me not being able to do anything about it.

It was less than fun.

I have a feeling I may not have had the best instructor in how to play the game :)
