The army lists are great. Plenty of local 'character'. I suspect a similar effect could be had by using different allies?
This way though the lists aren't dominated by the 'macedonian' units which is more interesting I think ☺

I would like to point out that this wasn't a defeat , merely a strategic withdrawal forced upon me by the invasion of the Hyrkanian army's home province........

Glad to hear: I share your view. Even though I'm not really sure that my Sogdiane+Indian allies fully correctly reflects how a Macedonian garrison looked like in ca 320 BC, it still gives the local character and flavour and a variation in army lists (which is good enough for game purposes in my opinion).
TomoeGozen wrote: Thu Sep 17, 2020 7:24 am I suspect a similar effect could be had by using different allies?
Maybe, but more binary since use of allies applies 75% of FP to main army and 25% to allies, plus that in the vanilla army list file, not all main armies could be combined with all possible allies. So modding of that file and thus use of a mod would have been needed anyway, so now we get truly unique army lists for each satrapy, further adjustable through the use of allies.
TomoeGozen wrote: Thu Sep 17, 2020 7:24 am This way though the lists aren't dominated by the 'macedonian' units which is more interesting I think ☺
Exactly. There are still noticeable elements of Macedonian or Successor Kingdom units, but with a local flavour.

Sure... Which units did you have left that could withdraw? (For those of you who think I'm patronising here, I'd like you to know that TomoeGozen and I have played numerous MP games together, and we take our victories and defeats alike with a light heart. :) )

Well, there were the 3 units of skirmishers that spent most of the game hiding in that marsh...

rbodleyscott (attacker) defeats kronenblatt (defender) 65-55% and takes control over Indike.

With the previously reported battle between kronenblatt and TomoeGozen, the map looks as follows:

Also, keep track of and mention in the battle report if a C-in-C dies in battle, since when a C-in-C of all existing players have died in battle, all Diadochi (that is generals serving under Alexander the Great) are deemed to be dead and the tournament ends (given that one player controls more satrapies than all the other players).

batesmotel (attacker) beats TomoeGozen 59/25 and takes control HYrkania.

The forced marches of the Hyrkanian army seem to have caused them to lose both going and coming. The Persian elephants seem to have been the decisive element in overcoming the Hyrcanian cataphracts and other mounted. Thanks for a good game.

And the Indian elephants, now sadly lost to RBS...

(Many thanks for report btw. :) )

So with batesmotel gaining control over the satrapy of Hyrkania, the situation is as follows:

Three battles still outstanding, I believe:

1. Blagrot attacking Karvon in Kilikia, with Blagrot staking Phrygia.
2. Karvon attacking Aetius39 in Mesopotamia, with Karvon staking Syria.
3. deeter attacking Aetius39 in Armenia, with deeter staking Atropatene.

The results of these battles could really reshuffle the political situation in the west...

Aetius (Armenia/Georgian allies) defeats Deeter (Atropatene) 61-59 and takes over Atropatene

Ridiculously tough battle in mostly rough terrain. Seesawed back and forth with either one of us being able to win in the end. In all honesty, we called it a victory but in probably more truth the Atropatenes saw how ugly our country was and just left.^^

Thanks for the game Deeter!

How did you guys find the army lists? Hopefully distinctly regional but still clearly and predominantly Macedonian/ Hellenistic?

The lists were fine, but not appropriate to the terrain. It was called hilly but would make the Swiss Alps envious. Very little room for pikes or cav and very limited access to medium troops. Is there no provision for a draw or for choosing a different map? Fun game though against a relentless defender.

I agree, the lists were fine, no problems there. Would suggest the chance at changing map 1 time if opponent agrees though, as in real life the diadochi armies would not fight in terrain both unsuited for themselves. Just a suggestion!^^

I see. And this was hilly? I looked around the satrapies and it seems that we don't have mountains anywhere luckily.

Ok, let's change rules to allow for redraw of map if both players agree. Basically as many times as they like, as long as both want to. In practice it will be 1 - maximum 2 times anyway, since such a hazzle to set up each time. Thanks for feedback, guys!

Aetius draws with Karvon 53-45

We managed to beat back the invading armies, but did not have the resources to take their province. No change in territory this time!

Change in the rules:
  • Map re-rolls can be made one or several times, if both players agree.
...
  • Players can agree to a draw before battle or at any time during battle, in which case neither player is considered winner or loser for that battle.

Then we have one unresolved battle left:

Blagrot attacking Karvon in Kilikia, with Blagrot staking Phrygia.

I'm afraid this is pre-CNN, so you will have to wait and see future developments.:)

Ok, then let's wait and see. :)

Anyway, thanks everyone, fellow Diadochi: round 1 and the year of 320 BC has then come to an end, with the political situation as per the map above. I will shortly post order of declarations for round 2 (319 BC), based on inflicted casualties.
