Why no flank attack?

Post by 76mm »

One of my cav units was in melee with an enemy unit. One of my nellies was behind the enemy and ready to attack!

And yet when I tried to attack with the elephant, it did not get a flank bonus:

Why not?

From the photo, it looks like the cav only attacked this turn from the flank as some of the Italian foot are facing your elephant. If that was the case, your elephant wouldn't get a flank on the same turn. If you waited a turn, and the Italians turn to face the cav, you'd get the flank/rear attack then. However, given the number of other enemy units visible in the photo, I'm not sure your elephant would be free from enemy zocs by then.

actually, the cav didn't attack this turn, or at least not during my turn. I think it attacked as part of a pursuit in the last turn, that's why I thought I would get a flank attack. I saw that some of the enemy guys are facing my elephant, but the question is why?

If it was a pursuit move, I think that counts as its move for the coming turn, which is why the unit contacted hasn't fully faced it yet.

I'm pretty sure it was a pursuit move, so that must be it--my nellies felt so cheated! Strange that I haven't encountered this enough to know this by now. Thanks for the feedback.

The enemy unit as a whole is still facing away from the flank/rear attackers. The banner shows which way the unit is officially facing.
