Steam 1.5.32 (all DLCs): LOS view issue

This is not technically a bug.

The LOS display only shows what your unit cannot see (during deployment) looking towards enemy lines.

Why do I care about what can be seen from the sides and my own lines?

If you look in the woods, I am planning a small surprise (distraction) or a big surprise (trap). In this case, I decided to just go for a distraction, and not for a trap. But if I wanted to go for the trap, then my units must remain unseen even when they have been passed. Ideally, they would be hidden until the enemy is locked in melee so that I may flank charge. (Obviously, it is not hard to work out the rule that they need to be three deep in trees.)

So, my point display, I think the LOS display could be made more consistent and useful to treat the given unit as a point, not part of a force.

The LOS display on deployment seems to be of areas parallel or forward, but not to the rear.

I am saying imagine it not from a fog of war point of view, but as a geometrical point, since when setting up ambush, it is often necessary that the enemy pass you, and you are still unseen.

I see, well the whole deployment area is assumed to be visible. The normal tests only apply outside it.

If this were not the case, it wouldn't help anyway, because it is showing what your unit can see, and not what the enemy can see. In open terrain these are usually the same thing, but not when your unit is in a wood.

So setting ambushes in woods is simply a matter of knowing the rules:

Cavalry in the outside row of wood are visible from outside at any distance. Infantry in the outside row of wood are only visible from within 2 squares.

Cavalry and infantry further into the wood are only visible from the adjacent wood square.
