Aircraft crashing when trying to fly back to base...

Help!

Planes crashing at the end of the round when they try to return to base. Anyone know why this might happen? Is it because rain started that turn, for example, or is it because rain reduced their movement allowance? Is it something else?

so they just disappear? do their slots then become available but the unit is gone? i've never had this happen?

It happened when an airfield was captured. I was under the impression planes would rebase, but I think it may have coincided with a rain season, which could mean they can't rebase?

Your planes were probably too far away of any other airfield you own. Rebase has a maximum range, if your planes cannot reach the nearest airfield you will lose them.

If there is rain [or snow] planes can not move, cannot rebase.
If the bases within range are filled, planes will not be able to rebase.

good point so if you take an airbase whilst it raining, do you capture the aircraft from it or do they just get destroyed and you don't get any prestige either?

I did have available bases they could have gone to instead, but presumably because it was raining they couldn't go there and so they were all destroyed.

Rain or snow means no rebase means crash.

Planes can crash in fair weather if there are no friendly airbase in rebase range. Not something that happens often.
