Import core "clean-up"

Post by Tassadar »

When reviewing my core at the end of Denmark I noticed two of my units having a joined/left/joined the unit date at the same scenario (one since SCW and one in 1939) - likely since I assigned/unassigned/assigned them accidentally when thinking where they would fit best. Is there a way to adjust it? Maybe an option to manually delete entries in the log in a future patch? I'm a bit of a clean freak when it comes to my units and since what seen cannot be unseen those accidental miss-clicks bother me more than they reasonably should. Not enough to replay SCW and 1939 from start yet however - that's for one more run once all AO are out. :)

Alternatively, would it be possible to edit the core save file this way to adjust it? Would it require a hex editor, or will some basic tweak in text editor like Notepad++ work?

Yeah, it did occur to me that the current situation was not ideal, but the game has no reliable way to tell real hero assignments from mistakes. One possible solution here is to use Undo when you make a mistake, then you actually erase the mistake, and during the Deployment Phase undo is not limited.

Saved core files are not protected from editing, but they are binary and adjusting unit history is not trivial, because it's a rather complex data structure. I've put "edit history" UI on the wishlist.

This could be the ultimate 'out of context' quote of the year. Of the year 1984 especially.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will keep in in mind for future play in deployment phase. Also thanks for putting it on a wishlist of possible improvements - I realize that's a low priority one due to how cosmetic it is, but if it's not too complex it could certainly improve things. Maybe alongside the option to add own notes from a scenario if those more role-playing players want to commemorate a specific even that took place (surviving by sheer miracle or taking down the repeating enemies like Vega).
