Saar offensive reference works.

Post by Patrat »

I was wanting to read up about the French Saar offensive of 1939 and was wondering what books or other works the devs used in creating those scenarios.

Of course I'm open to anyone's reading suggestions on this topic, not just from the devs.

You definitely won't find any reference to the raid on Forbach with captured French equipment though.

That is pure fantasy... which is why it's flagged as an optional scenario. Just like semi-fictional Catalonia, and fictional Germans in Finland.

This is definitely going to be a re-occurring theme, because there definitely are the historical players out there who have often wished to 'opt out' of this kind of content in the past (Spoils of War). And the lack of complaints this time around tells us it was the right decision to make such things optional.

"Kerensky!"...A Very-Insightful-Video!... despite the backward slow/awkward mobilization and deployment-method/technique that the 'French' were using borrowed from WWI... as well as their backward outmoded usage and use of 'Static-Artillery-Units' [Their small ~150mm Artillery... was ineffective against the German defense Bunkers]... they did have one at least one major factor in their favour... it was that their 'Tanks'... were impervious to German 'Anti-Tank-Guns.

Now!... why start the 'Saar-Offensive' in the first place if you are not determined to give it your full-measure of planning and effort to then ensure the success that is required to achieve a 'Victory'???... how stupid can that be!!!. Not only that... but the British as far as I know were not asked to participate?... how stupid can that be!!!.

For the "Saar-Offensive" to have had any chance to be a success... both the French and the British would have had to have been involved. Both parties would have had to have had the 'determined-resolve' to make it happen... no half-hearted effort like the French displayed... and to as well commit the resources to this 'Operation' that would have been required.

If that had instead... have taken place... then yes... Hitler's Germany may have very well have fallen apart... especially with the Russians attacking and making serious inroads into Poland.

All those missions were optional though. If you got a decisive at Warsaw, it was optional to fight spoils of war. You could refuse. The same goes for all the other ones. ;)

Thanks. That video was interesting.

As far as those books go, I'm afraid that I'm addicted to my Kindle and just cant bring myself to read paper books anymore.
